I know that we are not suppose to use any fake sweetners, or at least I was told by gastro. However, I brought to his attention that most fiber supplements use fake sweetners and he responded that probably that little amount wouldn't hurt. I asked about Stevia, he didn't know. Anybody have knowledge about this? 2nd question is about a safe pizza, any recipes out there? 3rd is the ground plant based burger acceptable? 4th and final for now lol, would an all vegie whole wheat sandwich from Subway be anything you could eat. Trying to find fast safe foods, this could be cut up and frozen. Thanks

Well for my low carb diet directed to me from IU Medical Center I am not to have any artificial sweetners of any kind, have learned to drink coffee black and ice tea unsweeten.Pizza is good with cauliflower crust, many out frozen and fresh now and some chains are using a cauliflower crust. I also not allowed to have any breads now have been trying a keto 1g net carb bread that is very good. I hope I have given you some new ideas !! Ron
Yes, thanks. I figured that about sweeteners and I don't use them but I have IBS and am suppose to take Metamucil or something every day and they either have sugar or fake sugar. The one who has none and I like best is Benefiber but out of all they make...it does not like me!! Naturally...
Hi. Erythritol is natural--not a fake sugar. Allulose is also not a fake sugar (it is a "rare" sugar found in certain fruits/foods.) Erythritol and Monkfruit "sugars" are readily available (get organic if you can.) Note that Erythritol is a sugar alcohol, so it might not be good with IBS. Not sure. I use zero sodium organic soy milk (I froth it because I am still a coffee snob!) I add vanilla coffee syrup with erythritol/stevia. Stevia is a plant. You can get organic stevia for sweetening--you can even make your own from the plant. I avoid artificial sweeteners (sucralose/Splenda, never, ever aspartame!) Depending on what you are using it for, organic date syrup is also fine in small quantities.
Processed foods are super high in sodium in most cases. We make homemade pizza a lot! There are several brands of marinara that are low-sodium if you want red sauce. I actually use olive oil and fresh garlic instead, but that is just me. Topped with seasoned tofu is great or super lean chicken (pre-season and bake and it is handy for lots of things.) Mushrooms, peppers, all kinds of veggies are great. Target stores here carry low-fat, low-sodium cheese.
For the crust, we use flatbread that Sprouts grocery stores carry. Low-sodium and no fat, whole wheat. Kroger also makes an organic pizza crust that is low sodium/low or no fat.
For those looking for sandwich meat--Deistel (sp?) brand makes a no sugar/no salt turkey breast. I don't eat any other processed meats (WAY high in sodium and all kinds of additives.) I found the turkey at Whole Foods and a local chain here as well. It is so nice to have an actual sandwich!
Hope that helps give you some options. Check organic sections as you will find more natural options. Organic is not always more expensive. And definitely cheaper than a doctor's bill!
Thank you so much. I just looked at the Citricel I have always taken and it has aspartame!! Using for years and gastro knew. I had already decided to switch to Metamucil, only one I could find with Stevia, Premium Blend. They have one plain no sweetners but I read a review it has maltodextrin.
Live you life, but in moderation. I've been going for 21 yeas in Stage 3 and 4, I have only cut out beef to once a month. I never use sugar deliberately and once in a while a sweetener. black coffee. Don't deprive, moderate. You can still lose weight and live your life.
Fake/natural sugars are loaded in sugar alcohols which affect the liver. Stevia is okay for those who can tolerate it. I use very green bananas, fig sugar, coconut sugar…none of which will spike the glycemic index if used in moderation. As for the pizza, I make a riced cauliflower base & load it with veggies, except anything with the nightshade family (tomatoes, eggplant, etc). No, I stay the heck away from commercially processed foods & canned fruits..they all have hidden added sugars. My diet is a mix of Mediterranean & Keto. I don’t legumes as they are high in lectins. I don’t eat nightshades as they affect my liver. I don’t consume any dairy/meats that are not grass fed. I eat only wild-caught high fatty fish (salmon mainly). With the dairy, I don’t digest anything less the 50% in the fats, anything lower is pure sugars, which will not only spike the glycemic index, but also make you keep the weight on. I don’t eat out & if I get caught off guard & have to…I don’t ingest anything made with any kind of grains….they’re loaded in hidden sugars. I’m stage 3 NAFLD created by acetaminophen based drugs since my military days. All I have to say…be very careful how you eat. Fatty Liver can turn into hyperglycemia & diabetes. Yes, it can be turned around & reversed if your beta cells haven’t been destroyed, but, you have to be disciplined in your diet.
I use debittered stevia. The only brand that doesn't taste awful to me is Splenda's stevia. At least one study found stevia to be beneficial to the liver for those with NAFLD and NASH ...
The my fitness pal app is real good to enter in the search space will tell you all that you ask about and then you decide. It has saved me many times especially entrees at restaurants thinking it was a lower carb food and bam"""" usually more than what allowed for whole day!!! Ron
When in the hospital they gave me cardiac diet but I have the liver diet so in my head I was afraid to eat some of it!! Mashed potatoes and breaded chicken with fat free gravy, low fat flavored yogart, regular sprite no coffee, 2% milk, vegies and sherbert. Breakfast, nasty fake eggs wheat toast with earth butter and fruit jam. Oatmeal with plant based Brown sugar that was good. Then little containers of fruit unsweetened. One was meatballs on flat noodles with brown fat free gravy, fruit, another sprite and mixed vegies.
