Hi, i joined here yeaterday after tired some googling which says "no treatment for fatty liver" i was stressed. i was diagnosed fatty liver grade 2, four days ago. But my ultrasound report says, "liver normal in size, increased echo structure . No space occupying lesion. No intra hepatic biliqry radical dilation seen." In 2018 my ultrasound sound said " liver enlarged on size, grade 1 fatty liver". I am wondering how is my liver normal in size with grade 2 fatty liver. I am prescribed Ursodeoxycholic acid tablets 300 mg twice a day. Google says there is no medicine and here i am prescribed one. I am so very confused. I got relaxed and motivated to read so many articles and responds here. I have changed tye diet since then.... full veggie with variety of nuts and seeds. Changed cooking oil to Olive extra virgin. I am forcing fruits too and have included 45 mins walk alternative days. I am hypothyrodic since 2008 and have PCOS with irregular cycle for ages. My BMI says overweight. Plz guide me through. Is the medication i am prescribed gonna get rid of fats accumulation in my liver and otyer organs?

Hi,

Personally i had quite bad experience with Ursodeoxycholic acid which lead to toxic hepatitis. I tried to resume the treatment multiple times afterwards but every time was stopping it because of severe inflammation it was causing to the entire body.

It could be just the case for me and for you it might be different, but i think it's also causing additional stress on the liver which is definitely not a good idea in case if you have some scarring or inflammation ongoing there. So i would be careful with the treatment and maybe start with the smaller quantity and increase it gradually if it gets tolerated well.

Good luck and stay healthy.

A small correction: there is treatment for NAFLD/NASH: lifestyle changes! Diet, exercise, weight reduction, and so on :)

There is still no medication though.

Hi, thank u for shedding light on my fear. I have started lifestyle and diet change and have lost 1 kg from 13th May. Should i supplement with fish oil? Though i have started lactos vegan diet now, i have always been a heavy meat eater.

Hi Ps15. I am also new to this. I am not taking any supplements. What I did was to reduce simple carbs in my diet while increasing consumption of good fats (salmon, olive oil, nuts, ...). I had a fibroscan in the beginning of April. I ll have another one in 6 months to assess whether the fat content of my liver reduces. I am also exercising a lot and losing weight :)

talk to your doctor about the specific diagnosis. Ursodeoxycholic acid is sometimes used to treat bile duct diseases such PBC and PSC and to dissolve some kinds of gallstones. It is important for you to understand exactly what your problem is as there is conflicting evidence about when the drug might be helpful but it is not recommended for fatty liver so get your doc to tell you exactly what it is doing for you.

Thank you for the helpful suggestions. I have lost 1 kg since 13th May till today. Is it safe to lose weight at this pace? I will see the Gastroenterologists this weekend and see what he recommends.
