Alt 42 and gamma 216

hi all. I am going for a scan in December as I went for a blood test for something else and these popped up. Doctor said they’ve checked ggt as my alt was slightly high. But ggt is really high by looks of it.

Note I had been taking ibuprofen for 8 days 3 times a day prior for an achy leg, doctors told me to take it for 14 but when my liver enzymes were showing high told me to stop taking them as this could be reason for my higher levels.

I’ve never had a great diet always eating chocolates drinking fizzy pops I’ve stopped this since my results as I’ve gone into a melt down. Can anyone give me any advice

Those are indications that more testing is needed as they can be driven up by a variety of things so you are doing the correct thing to get some additional testing. Good idea to deal with the diet in any case so good for you on that.

Hello Lucky87

Well done on your swift action to stop the high sugar snacks. I had a similar experience - went to the GP for one thing and came away with high ALT and a fatty liver diagnosis (well, a few weeks later after a scan!) However, the liver is amazing if we give it a chance. Within 2 weeks of exercise, no sugar or alcohol my ALT had dropped to a remarkably low level and within 3 months or so I had resolved my fatty liver which was confirmed by a Fibroscan. Terror is a great motivator! I know have a lot more respect for my liver - it was easy to ignore it as I’m slim, I run regularly etc. I just drank a bit too much (2 large glasses a day - easily done over dinner and the evening!) and enjoyed sugary snacks. Over the years, the fat accumulated bit by bit. I wish we were more aware in the UK. I’d never heard of fatty liver before and was told by my GP it was for life. Not true in many cases. Take good care and keep up the good work!
