Hello folks. I was diagnosed with fatty liver in February2021. Experienced pain on the right. One 2 cm gallstone. In March 2021 I had gallblader removed. It is now June 2021. My pain on the right side never left me. Plus I have some heavy inflamation feeling in my stomach. I had 3 US. I had MRI a month after the surgery, nothing serious found. I had blood tests- GGT raised from 40 in February2021 to 132 in June 2021. ALP and ALT are elevated too but not that bad. My constant dull pain and GGT up bother me a lot and I am almost losing hope...surgeon says he doesn't know why. Ordered ct scan. Gastroenterologist ordered finbroscan. I am tired of pain, and it is not fun.. may be someone with similar experience can cheer me up...p.s. I just defended PhD- somehow managed to finish it with all this happening in the last 5 months....
Sorry I can't really help, but I wanted to say well done on getting to the end of PhD and viva, especially with all that going on! I suppose the question is what is causing your gall bladder not to work well and liver the same. Do you have an underlying low metabolism issue, like a thyroid problem, or more likely insufficient stomach acid so that the gall bladder wasn't getting the right signals and became sludgy. If brain and body aren't getting enough oxygen and glucose the signals go haywire, so worth thinking about improving blood flow (any anaemia, more exercise) and blood sugar control which impacts everything. Are you digesting food properly or low on essential nutrients and fibre, good fats and clean protein. I'm guessing you are using ox bile or similar. Don't lose hope!
Thank you so much for your response. Since January I had more tests than in the last 5 years. I think I have too much acidity and may be now it is acting up. Only one test that I think is due is gastroendoscopy... antacids pantoprazole helped me to release pain for a few days and then it came back again even though I continued asidblocks...
Too little acid is far more common than too much and the symptoms are very similar. The gall bladder only works if you have enough acid, so you probably don't, but you may well not be able to find a doctor who will help you with that. Try asking about hypochlorhydria. Thank you again. I talked to my gastroenterologist today who is sending me to fibroscan and gastroendoscopy. I understand the gastroendoscopy part because I may have ulcers or gastritis (possible, I never had that before). But I am puzzled- he said my MRI and CT scan, I just did the latter, are Normal. Well, how can they be normal if a) I have elevated liver enzymes and b) the gastroenterologist is sending me to check my scarring.? I am terrified by that scarring thing...
I'm sure someone on here will be able to reassure you better than I can. Unfortunately no testing is perfect and it has been my experience with multiple other conditions that it can be hard to get a clear picture. Although we do like to have a diagnosis, feeling better seems more important (to me) and there are always things that we can change in diet and lifestyle to make improvements, often significant ones. Please try not to get too stressed. Something that you enjoy which relaxes you would be good to focus on right now, be it getting out for a stroll, some yoga, breathing, music....Take care
I, too, don't have advice to offer but hopefully you will be more at ease after the fibroscan. I had my gallbladder out five years ago. I was at the ER a year ago with significant RUQ pain. Had CT, etc. - nothing was found. I am positive it was liver related and it lasted for quite a while - six months or better. It eventually subsided. I have never been heavy but I did start following a clean liver diet (no sugars, alcohol, limited red meat etc). Also - you have a lt on your plate - congrats on your PhD!!!
