High AST/ALT Question

Hello all. I’ve been on this battle for a while and have almost defeated it but my AST and ALT are constantly highish in the 80s or more. My fibrosure shows almost no fibrosis and no steatosis. What could be causing these numbers to still be elevated?

Also I do not drink alcohol and have tested negative for hepatitis.

80s is only sligntly elevated. Keep up your good work and the numbers will stay steady or go down. You are doing great, congratulations! Please note that I am NOT a doctor, this is NOT medical advice, it is simply based on what I - a non-doctor - have read and seen on the internet and talked about with my own doctor. Good luck and happy holdays!

My Fibrosure was 9.09 it didn’t say anything fat . That doesn’t make sense if you have no fibrosis and no fat that they be elevated I wonder if it was a mistake .

Well that’s what’s weird. It’s happened on three consecutive tests. The doctors just keep telling me to do what I’m doing, but I had brought both the AST and ALT to normal levels for almost a year, and all or a sudden they decided to elevate.

Elevated enzymes generally point to some form of inflammation, not necessarily fibrosis. It can be caused by many things besides alcohol and the hepatitis viruses.

Hello! Thanks for your response. Would you happen to know and be able to provide this list?

Medicines, metabolic issues (NAFLD), autoimmune problems, hemochromatosis, etc, etc...the list of what can cause elevated enzymes is pretty long. You should follow up with your doctors.

My initial diagnosis came about because an annual physical with labs had my AST and ALT in the 400's. Over time, numbers went down to the 90's. Doctor said that was only slightly elevated and had been holding steady for a year. He was not concerned. We both about fell over when the numbers last year were down into the 30's. Yay! I've never been an alcohol drinker because I get Asian flush reaction. I'm mostly careful with my diet. However, my lipids were high and I'm taking a statin. I think that is the cause for those great numbers. Elevated lipids run in my family.
