Can’t lose weight with NAFLD!

I need some help. My mother was diagnosed with NAFLD and due to this, she seems to be unable to lose weight. After trying different diets and working out religiously doing HIIT and other programs, she’s stuck. She needs to lose Weight to not only help her condition but feel confident again. Her doctors refuse to do any sort of hormone replacement (not sure if there’s other ways to elevate key hormones she’s losing) and only tell her to lose weight, even though it seems impossible. Any advice or suggestion? Thank you in advance!!

Hi

I'm so sorry your Mum has got nafld. Has her consultant/GP referred her to a dietician, that should have been one of the first things he did for her. Failing that, could you go with her to see her GP and ask for her to be referred. I know you shouldn't have to do this but we seem to have to fight for everything. Love and hugs to you both Lynne xxxx

As suggested you have to make it plain at this stage you need help to point your mom in the right direction.

Losing weight is so hard to do. I was diagnosed 19 years ago. I weight 283 and got down to 262 right away, then I sat, I finally got down to 247 then went back to 254. Over the years it has been back and forth. Last March I got down to 220 after 18 years only to gain 20 of it back again and I'm fighting it again. So it has taken years to do it, but my goal is to finally hit 200 this year. I know what to eat, but I'm a stress eater. I don't eat any beef and very little bread, but I just don't lose the weight. I have tried exercise and every diet known to man. I understand what she is going through but if she is not to the Nash stage she can lose 20 a year and be ok, unless she is extremely heavy. Just keep losing, one step at a time. It is so hard.

My GI doctor put me on meal replacements and only 1 meal a day. I have no thyroid and it’s very hard for me to lose as well but I am losing at least a pound a week. Most the hospitals offer this program.

that’s awesome keep at it! I’ll have to ask if my mom can get into her GI to talk about that, thank you!

So you consume like two shakes a day and one healthy meal? Thanks for sharing,

4 shakes and a protein bar 160 calories and low sugar. Then dinner is 5oz protein and a healthy carb with olive oil and lots of vegetables. If hungry during the day I’ll eat vegetables. So about 1200 calories a day. My GI doctor wanted me to do no food at all but that’s to hard for me to stick to for any amount of time. I have the peleton bike and do that 4x a week and go to planet fitness 2x a week and yoga 1-2x a week so I’m pretty active. Have another fibroscan in September and want to be at my goal weight.
