Hi all. I am writing about my daughter. She does eat healthy, but like most children likes sweets at holidays and birthday parties. Her siblings eat the same diet and are very healthy. She has slightly elevated alt. It has gone from 75 to 132 in 10 months. Her AST is slightly elevated as well and rising. Ultra sound says early stages of disease. Should I be doing more tests? I don’t understand this disease! We are seeing a nutritionist, but it seems maybe she needs more drastic diet then moderation which is the approach to food we have used in the past. Any advise or experience is welcomed!!

Hi JessicasMom
At her age and from your description, I would be looking at other possible causes. Liver disease can have a variety of sources and it can be hard to figure out. It isn't necessarily diet. Autoimmune and viral infections are a couple of things that can happen. I can't give you any useful advice because you are dealing with a complex medical question but I would try to get a consult with a hepatologist as soon as possible. Specialized training is important with uncommon liver problems. Good luck.

Thank you Nash! I’ll look into that!
Good luck, as a general case the inflammation that is indicated by the ALT results is your best target so you might consider diet aimed at that. Here is a link that might help you fattyliverfoundation.org/na...
