Hi! For the past few months my iron storage levels have been double and tripling. I was sent for an ultrasound. I got the results yesterday. It said I have heterogenous hepatic parenchyma and micronodular liver surface consistent with fibrosis/cirrhosis. M really list right now as to what this means. My doctor scheduled me for a FibroScan “to see how dangerous” this is for me. From my research having heterogeneous parenchyma and nodular surface could mean this is more than early stage fibrosis. She has told me to stay away from all toxins, no alcohol, not even hand sanitizer, only organic foods and reduce my fat, and less red meat. I don’t go for my FibroScan until Friday of next week and my follow up is the 31st. I am waiting to get an appointment with a gastroenterologist. Does anyone know if what I read about the results is accurate? Of course I know it’s different for everyone but just looking for answers or a better idea of what I may be facing while I wait.

As you suggest, we can't tell you much. The ultrasound isn't very good for diagnosing but those results are a reason to look closer so the prudent next step is the Fibroscan which will give you a better sense of what is going on. Your next step of seeing a gastro doc is appropriate. I would suggest that your immediate concern is to understand the iron problem. Big fluctuations in iron levels are uncommon so I'd have that as a top concern as well when you talk with your docs. We have a lot of information on the website so if you need basic background you might start here.
