I am new to this group by having a crisis that was precipitated by a GI bleed. I ended up in ICU for 4 nights, and was diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. After two EGD's, I am slowly waiting to have my anticoagulants restarted (I have a pacemaker and chronic a fib). Meanwhile I just started on Bumex to drain off the fluid from my belly. My Metoprolol was changed to Propanolol as it is supposed to help the esophageal varices that were banded. It's giving me orthostatic hypotension. I have NIDD, Hgb A1c is 8. And I have a history of high blood pressure! I have first and foremost decided to go to a university medical teaching hospital, so I can get my health care centralized. Meanwhile I wait for my appointments in January. I am a 61 year old male, and have been an RN for 36 years. Where do I begin?

You are dealing with several issues for sure. Moving to a medical center is probably your first best step. Are you being referred to a hepatologist? That is critical as you probably know you are likely dealing with high portal vein pressure as a result of liver disease. Without knowing more, it sounds like you are on the right track for your next step.

What a terribly frightening way to learn you are ill. When u are able keep communicating here. Less lonesome. Sounds like u have helped thousands of people over your life. Now time to take care of you. Learn to not obscess. Then give yourself over to diet change. Exercise as u are able. Now is time for family friends and pets. Hope u can let us know how u are soon.
