I got my biopsy results. The assistant called and said liver biopsy showed "extreme fat infiltration " but no sign of scar tissue.
How accurate are biopsys and does liver scar as a whole? Does this confirm i have no cirriosis?

Hi Frogking
Well, congratulations. To be clear a doctor should be the one to really interpret your tests but I can tell you what the general understanding is. Biopsy has long been the gold standard for diagnosis. It does, like all procedures have an error rate, but in context with other information is generally regarded as accurate. So what does extreme fat mean? The liver can contain a very large amount of fat since fat itself is not chemically harmful but makes liver cells vulnerable to damage. So the assistant said that you had a lot of fat but it had not become NASH so you have NAFLD. Good news as if you manage your diet and weight there is every chance that you can resolve your risk of liver disease. The liver does normally scar throughout but can be patchy so that is the risk with biopsy. Good news but making sure what the doctor thinks is smart.

I understand doctor has to look at ir and have appointment the 27th but pa still have alot of schooling. I would hope a pa at a high end hospital can tell difference between cirrosis and no scaring. It wasn't fibrosis and error. She said no signs of any fibrosis or scaring but said the sample was extremely fatty. Idk what that means. She said doctor will go over in detail but don't have cirrosis.
Any regards this should be good news?
"scar throughout but can be patchy," if anything that would lead to misdiagnosis of Cirrhosis, not NALFD, right? or other way around?
Well, I suppose there are variations but scaring would follow the inflammation so if there are conditions which create patchy fat deposition it could be either. Think of people who never exercise so never get their blood flow up. They may have parts of the liver where local pressure reduces the blood flow so they are affected at a different rate than other areas. As pressure builds in the liver those other channels will take over the flow. So while the disease is diffuse or spread throughout the organ you might see local differences over time
Fatigue can have many mothers but anything that affects the liver can contribute. Good news, many of us wish we had your problems
Gool luck

BIOPSIES are as accurate as it can get. As far I'm concerned that's great news, considering if you change your lifestyle, you will live a normal healthy life.
I hope that's case and not patchy liver. Still having many symptoms of cirrosis. Have blue veins creeping up my right shoulder. I'm working on losing weight.
if it helps any, i have never heard of anyone that has cirrhosis and also has blue veins creeping up right shoulder. I understand you are scared. Here's the thing with fatty liver... Change is hard. Many people don't want to give up the foods they love, and quitting drinking is very scary for most. If people aren't honest with themselves first and then others trying to help, then I'm not sure if any diagnosis can be made.
I don't drink at all. And change easy part I was changing. Lost, 35 pounds and that's when symptoms got worse so I stopped. And thought enlarged veins was part of cirrosis
I'm more afraid of having nothing to fight for
do you see a psychologist or therapist?
No having aspergers I don't do well telling strangers about my feelings I don't understand
well that's something I can totally relate to .. That's why I dont go to one. My son (he's 8 yrs old) and I both have Aspergers (mild form) and both of us are Mensa members and OCD
Congrats! I have no medical degree, don't know how accurate any test could be. Take it as a positive result for now. Yay!
