I think most of us know that it is best to get your minerals and vitamins from a balanced diet - but when you are fasting for days, you get no minerals or vitamins unless you take supplements... but there are few minerals or vitamins you need to take every day.
and Salt:
Most people (not on this forum) exercise little... and eat too much highly-refined, over-processed food with too much salt. Many health-conscious people eat a low-salt, exercise regularly and could have salt deficiency... especially in very hot weather.
