Fasting and autoimmune diseases

Hi,

When my son was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease I looked into fasting and it’s benefits so he had all his options available to him.

Below is an article on fasting and autoimmune diseases. Thought it may be food for thought for someone in a similar position.

Hello Ali,

Thank you for this link, I will be having a proper look at it later.

I have autoimmune disease, although have managed to calm things right down. I have done 24 hour detoxs - which was fasting for 24 hours and just having filtered water to drink (although probably just having a bit of vegetable juice would have been a good idea, to stop the body going into Starvation mode" but to be honest it done me the world of good - so this gets the thumbs up from me 👍

Best wishes

Debs

That’s interesting, thanks for that Debs. I’ll bear that in mind. Autoimmune diseases are awful!

Your not wrong Ali, it feels like a life sentence, but there is so much you can do, you are welcome to any of my books, they have been wonderful. I was told by the GP that Antibodies would always attack my Thyroid and I would just have to live with it as nothing at all can be done, I am very pleased to report, I know longer have these antibodies - I got rid of them, the GP was speechless. I hate the medical profession

So did you get rid of them through diet Debs? I’ve had a nightmare with the medical profession to the point I’m 100% sure my son had a note on his records warning them about me. Until they realised I was right! Have no respect for doctors which is why I do everything I can to keep myself well.

Oh Ali, I am so pleased, we share the same view. No doctor wants to see me, I hate to think whats on my notes 😊 but I don't care, its not an exaggeration when I say they nearly finished me if completely - I was denied medication at the time that I desperately needed, luckily I ordered it abroad (but they have been putting a stop on that) honestly If I had not have taken that, at 29 I would have been in heaven.

It wasn't just diet but that played a big part, I had to do so much to get to where I am now but I am so pleased i did it - another reason the doctors hate me

What you say doesn’t surprise me at all. Yes we share the same view and my scenario was very similar to yours. Obviously goes to show your experience and mine are not one offs!

I'm fraid they are not Ali, but they still get away with it and soon get the hump if you dont obey them

It took Dr's years to diagnose me with coeliac, when I was six I was referred to a psychiatrist, who said I dint need a psychiatrist 😀 But it took years for me to be diagnosed it was very frustrating sounding similar to you guys experiences.

I eat myself healthy...😇

I regularly don't eat for 12/14 hours but thats enough.

Age 6! Gosh. So you have been dealing with your situation since you were a young child? Maybe the problem with autoimmune diseases are that possibly the symptoms are never the same for two people so harder to diagnose but I don’t know.

in reply to Agoodenough

I used to get physically sick most days as a child and then coeliac often goes into remission when we become teens and then kicks back in again which's what happened with me and Dr's kept saying I was was too healthy to have anything wrong with me. 13 years later I went to give blood and ended up being admitted to hospital as an emergency as I was so anaemic, I have had a badge for being a blood donor since so must be getting something right.

It's not easy to spot thats the problem with lots of autoimmune disorders in my opinion.

With undiagnosed coeliac gluten is making our immune system attack our intestines and crosses our blood brain barrier so Dr think its tension which makes you feel more tense...😱

That must have been so frustrating!

Thats terrible Jerry, it sounds like we have all had to do battle, for many years.

Although I completely agree it is difficult to diagnose, but with me it so was clear to see, and there lack of compassion gets to me. The blood tests rule, even if your looking half dead

in reply to Kitten-whiskers

It sounds like you've had a rough time too Debs, I was getting frustrated with my Dr for not being able to diagnose me, gluten then attacked my colon and internal bleeding started so I thought they'll sort it now... they thought I'd added blood to a sample as I was too healthy. 5 years later another Dr said to me I'm sorry to tell you but you have internal bleeding. I was then diagnosed with CD and microscopic colitis...

Bless you Jerry, that is awful. I am so sorry that you also had to suffer terribley at the hands of the medical profession. I always found that Vernon Coleman was spot on. Add blood to a sample - are they mad, thats just a redicious statement, sounds like they needed the psychiatrist.

As i have often said I would rather be treated by a vet (and I am not joking) The doctors hate me and I hate them

Makes me laugh you saying that’s debs. I envisage three dogs, two cats, a rabbit and you all sitting in the vets waiting room! Then you going in and them asking you where’s your pet and you saying no Pet, I’ve come about Myself! 😂 even so, they would have more idea than the doctors!

Kitten-whiskers in reply to Agoodenough

I would have to get past the receptionists first, but If I could get past them it would be plain sailing and proper treatment.

I wouldn't mind being keep waiting either - as there would be all those fluffy pets to stroke 😊

in reply to Kitten-whiskers

Thank you Debs, everything changed once diagnosed and I've had great Dr's since and recently moved and like my new Dr. So I sympathise with you and feel that this is sad, as no-one should feel alienated by Dr's/health professionals, so I do hope that this changes for you.

Otherwise a vet might just want to see if your nose is cold...

Thats great Jerry, so pleased you have good doctors. Its to late for me and the doctors, I haven't been for about three/four years now and will never step foot in another surgery. I can not forgive them for what they have done to me, if they had have picked up things a good 15 years before they did, my health would never have got to such a live threatening state, and even then they gave me the wrong meds and nearly finished me off completely - incompetent fools and lets not forget who they learn from. I am so glad you are doing well Jerry

in reply to Kitten-whiskers

This is very sad Debs, I'm very sorry as its just not fair.

My doctor has been very helpful - but only after I proved that I was ill, and not "just depressed".

Depression can be a symptom of a fixable medical condition - in my case: heart failure - fixed with a pacemaker.

I am so pleased you have a good doctor, you are one of the lucky ones.

I have seen private doctors and I hate them as such. I am afraid I will not be singing the praises of any GP, I would rather be treated by the Vet, but I am pleased you got help when you needed it

If I was to fast for more than say 48 hours, then somewhere the the True North Health Centre healthpromoting.com/ would be where I would head, if I live close enough. They do closely monitored water fasts for up to 40 days, with the aim of dealing with auto-immune illnesses etc.

Hi Ali, what an interesting article so thanks for posting it. I'm a coeliac which's an autoimmune disease and boy would I fast to cure that...😊

Thanks Jerry and I bet you would. I would imagine it’s a constant battle to keep it under control.
