Struggling With Disimpaction Regime

Hi everyone. My 3yo son is on Day 11 of a disimpaction regime (using CosmoCol/Laxido macrogols and Senna as a stimulant alongside) and although we're making progress (poos are type 6 with bits of his undigested food in), we're still nowhere near rusty coloured water it seems. He's really struggling to have even 8 sachets and is getting nowhere near the 10 or 12. Today he's been hysterical about not wanting to drink (we've tried smoothies, milkshakes, juice, squash) and also tried putting the macrogols in his food but he refuses to touch it. My partner and I are at our wits end, we feel like we're trying everything but it's just not enough.Doesnt help that our GP told me to give him max 6 laxatives a day and get him down to 4 asap as his system will become dependent on them. Which I KNOW is completely untrue and a I feel so disappointed in my gp and let down by being given conflicting information.

Is the only way to sort this to increase his laxatives even if we have to force them down him? I just feel there has to be a better way? And if we force him, how on earth are we ever going to establish him on a maintenance dose?

Any advice is appreciated, I feel pretty desperate right now. Ps he has tons of fruit and veg and oats; his diet is really good.

How are you giving the doses? Are you spacing them out throughout the day? eric.org.uk/how-to-use-macr...

Hello, thanks for your reply. Yes we're spacing them out throughout the whole day. Currently sitting here trying to get the first one of the day in him; we started at 7.30am and it's nearly 9am. This is how long it's taking to get it down him. It's soul destroying and he's getting distressed already.

What are you mixing it with?

Juice, squash, milk, milkshake, yoghurt, ice cream, smoothies. Also tried porridge and most meals. He was going along fine (we're on day 12 now) but i think he's sick of drinking. Keeps saying it's too much and he's tired. 💔 We need to do 10 sachets today; please god we get to disimpaction soon as i dont think we can carry on much longer.

Some other ideas to try: salty foods before and after, fridging alters the taste, diluting with further water, using a straw to bypass taste buds, foods they enjoy afterwards, trying different flavours of laxatives (different brands vary)

Hello. Thank you for your reply. We've had to stop disimpaction for now unfortunately as my son is unwell and he was vomiting all the CosmoCol back up again. We were so close im sure, so im gutted that we'll probably have to start again in a few weeks. Or could it be the case that he is sufficiently disimpacted for it to remedy itself with a maintenance dose now? We're just about managing to get 4 sachets in him a day.

Hi, I mix the laxative as normal, then add two teaspoons of chocolate nesquick. My daughter likes the taste. We are now back on a maintence dose and she likes to have her “choco drink” at bedtime. Disimpaction is tough for all the family, thinking of you
