Disimpaction whilst at school

Hi all. So saw a different GP with my son yesterday. He's currently soiling every day, a large amount. She examined him and said his stomach sounds overactive and if he was an adult she'd give something to slow digestion down. She rang a paed at hospital for advice and they said it's down to his history of constipation even though there is no obvious blockage and when he soils it's a whole bowel movement not just a liquid leakage.

So they want me to give him a disimpaction regime of movicol then drop to maintenance dose. He has 2 days left of school before Xmas holidays, do I send him to school whilst he's disimpacting? I don't even think he's impacted so I dread to think how loose it's going to make him. He has an intimate care plan at school so they are able to clean him up but if he's likely to soil 10 times in the day I don't really want to put him through it at school. But don't know what school would say if I keep him off.

He's also been referred to an incontinence nurse. Just want to get him sorted.

If it’s only 2 days I’d wait and do it over the holidays, 2 days won’t make any difference.

I started the disimpaction dose last night of 2 sachets and got to give 4 tonight. I was going to wait but I want him to be making some sort of improvement before Xmas weekend as we've got a lot planned. He soils his pants every day at school anyway so makes no difference I guess. I will phone them in the morning and see whether they want him in or not. If he misses the last 2 days then so be it, I guess they're only playing games and things anyway. Just hope it works!

Good morning, this is us today too!! We have been going for five years but things are bad again at the moment. Another nasty bladder infection this week, not helped by me stupidly giving her the wrong dosage of antibiotic. The GP said one dose three times a day. I took this to mean one 5ml spoon but on day six realised it said 10mls. I feel so bad she has been in so much pain.we were given a different antibiotic and from that point of view she is fine. However yesterday had five lots of overflow soiling and obviously needs a disimpaction but like you say it's difficult at school and she has only been at her new school a week. I have upped it a bit in the vane hope that she will be able to go well today but as she was away Friday really need her to make the last three days of school. So will be thinking of you. Good luck!!

My youngest is under the community paediatric doctor and she recommended disimpaction over the holidays. She suggested starting a couple of days before the holidays so that he was underway by the time we broke up but the wurst would come at home hopefully. I plan on starting tomorrow and might send him in pull ups for the last day just in case it's messy by that point. Good luck with it!

Nothing has happened so far so I fully expect the poonami to start tomorrow. Remains to be seen if he will be in school or not!

Yep was going to say it will probably be a few days until the poo flood comes so worth the risk for two days at school! Do you mind me asking what the care plan is you have with school? I struggle to get the school to notice unless really bad soiling, so often have a sore mess to deal with at end of the day. Not sure who I should be asking or how to help him as he doesn't tell anyone if soiled and I suspect there are no spare staff to give him checks and build him up to tell them. Good luck over christmas

I phoned the school this morning and they were happy for him to attend today. I did send him in a pull up though and with lots of extra ones and spare trousers just in case! I haven't heard from them so I presume he's okay so far.

The care plan is basically just that they will help him to clean up if he soils and take him away from other children to somewhere discreet. He can be a bit secretive about it too though, I don't know whether he doesn't want to tell them or if he doesn't realise himself! Generally the TA asks him regularly if he needs any help but I think it's his face or, sadly, the smell that alerts them usually.
