Toilet training stubborn 4yo

My nearly 4yo daughter has been having toileting problems since we started toilet training her around 2.5yrs. She started stool withholding and with the help of laxido and disimpaction, we finally feel like she is pooing a good amount each day (although I don’t think she ever fully empties her bowel).

I’m keen to try toilet training her again however she is very stubborn and just flat out refuses using the toilet or wearing pants. Recently she has gone out without nappy (or pants) for quite long periods but she just holds everything in until she’s desperate and asks for nappy.

We’ve tried rewards, toilet sitting after meals, putting an open nappy on toilet, cutting holes in nappy but nothing seems to work. Should we just be patient and trust she will start using toilet when she’s ready? Or is there anything else we should be doing?

Really interested to know if you’ve made any progress since this was posted? I’m in a very similar situation with my daughter, just don’t know what to do next!Nursery have said not to worry, she still has a year till she starts school, they all do it in their own time.

We’ve said that one day the nappies will go (like her dummy did) so she needs to practice using the potty/toilet but she gets really upset about it and then says it’s ok as we can go to sainsburys to buy some more…… 🤦🏼‍♀️
