My daughter (5) has wetting problems due to overactive bladder and sphincter issues. She also takes a maintenance dose of one sachet of movicol a day which usually gives her a perfect poo once a day.
However.... since this hot weather ( about 4 weeks now roughly), her poo has been horrendous!!!! Rather than sausage poo it’s loose the entire time and coming out in her pants ( her normal poo is always in the toilet). The good days have been 2 poos in pants! The bad days 4-6 poos in her pants!!! 6 today!!!!!! We increased the movicol to 3 sachets a couple of days ago and yesterday finally got a proper poo ( the first in weeks!) so I thought it was sorted but 6 loose poo accidents today! Plus the skinniest sausage on the toilet.
She’s drinking lots as it’s hot and she wants water all the time. She eats lots of fruit and veg.
Do we increase the movicol or lessen it?! Should we try to get a doctors appointment so they can feel for a blockage?
She wears tena pads in her pants anyway as she wets constantly and is waiting for PTNS to stop bladder spasms. So at least lots of poo goes in the pad. But not all of it has.
The only positive is that now we have mega poo issues we don’t worry about the wetting at all!!

Hi first of all I was thinking maybe the hot weather has upset her tummy a bit but now I'm thinking that she has got dehydrated , despite all her drinking and therefore constipated. Think I would get a GP to feel her tummy and see if she's bungled up. Good luck
I think I will get an appointment. I think 4 weeks is too long for an upset tummy too. I am just trying to work out if there’s still a blockage or if it’s now too much movicol. Hopefully they can feel her tummy and tell me.
The only positive is that we’ve stopped worrying about the wetting now! The poo thing is much worse to deal with!
Thanks so much for posting - we have had a real downturn with our wetting in the last few weeks and my daughter has been soiling too for the first time in ages (apart from a couple of blips when messing about with senakot dose). It never occurred to me it could be related to the weather! I was thinking about end of reception year exhaustion. I have also been thinking there must be an underlying blocking for us, so I have been messing about with the senakot dose which has made everything a bit more explosive/loose and like you describe although not as bad as you. I don’t have any answers but want to ring our continence team to ask for help so will let you know what they say.
The only thing I was going to say and forgot, was that I have gone back to basics with my daughter the last 24 hours and done enforced toilet sits 15 min after every meal. She’s gone from a once-a-day girl to a poo every time so far. If you have any suspicion of constipation, I do think it’s worth trying. However long she’ll tolerate up to ten minutes and a few pushes whilst she’s on there in a good position. If nothing else, it might reduce the number of accidents but will hopefully help clear anything in there too. X
