My 4 year old has a diagnosis of Autism. He was diagnosed a year ago, he appears to show little to no signs of potty training readiness but I’m finding as he becomes more verbal he is also exercising his boundaries to the point he no longer will sit on the toilet to even get him to try and pee (he’s never pee’d or poo on the toilet or in a potty) please can someone give me some tips on how to best support him. I don’t want to make him anxious about potty training but equally I don’t want him to believe it’s ok to not be potty trained. Is he even ready! I’m at a loss and put a lot of pressure on myself because he starts reception in September 2022

Firstly dont worry about September, once you know what school he is attending arrange a meeting with the SENCO to go over any health/medical requirements he may have and that includes not being toilet trained if that will be the case when he starts. Secondly, have a look at the Eric website there is a wealth of information on this subject there.
If he's alot then no pull ups/ nappies. Dose he have underwear and his own toilet seat with stool. Or you can get a fold up step and seat £20 from amazon. He's needs to be cimfortable, toilet routine set genrally before and after meals and depending on your change times. I'v also recently discovered alexa dose an alarm which child listens too. Fidget toy helps relaxed is what he needs to be. Its not easy and if you get lazy they get lazy. Make the toilet area a calm place and go with him. A book might help, music and you need to keep yourself calm. Good luck.
