My daughter had appointment with consultant today and after previously telling us that she does not have an over active bladder (last year he said her problem was a short urethra + loose sphincter muscle) today he said she does have a over active bladder and to put her on solifenacin (she has previously been on oxybutinun, betmiga, ephedrine + movicol)I am wondering what kind of side effects have people found with solifenacin as she had some horrific effects from oxybutinun and ephedrine. He said if this drug doesn't work after 6-8 weeks he will do Botox on her bladder.has anyone had good success with Botox?.he did scare me by saying that sometimes the Botox makes the bladder do nothing and you then have to catheterise daily till the Botox wears off.
I have a complete tension headache from the stress of the day to be honest as we also had an appointment with a nurse that wants us to do daily bowel clear outs.
Any advice or thoughts would be really appreciated,I just feel broken at this stage we are over 5 years now seeing specialists in this field and we still have a really upset child wetting 10+ times a day

Just to let you know my son is on Solifenacin, 5ml with a glass of water each morning and 5 sachets of Movicol a day (to ensure there's no chance of constipation, one soft bowel movement a day), it has definitely helped with his symptoms - the urge to wee isn't as strong, slightly less leaking and his bladder capacity has improved by about 50ml, no change to his overnight wetting/weeing. He started Solifenacin in July and no noticeable side effects at all so far. He was previously on Oxybutynin which initially helped in a very similar way but it also caused headaches, constipation (with tummy ache) despite the high fibre diet and it's effectiveness didn't improve even after going up to the highest dose. So I took him off Oxybutynin at the start of lockdown, had a short break and reluctantly started the Solifenacin so he could go back to school in September and make it through the day, he still has to wear Tena for Men pads in his boxers for the little leeks when he needs to go, but he can manage with the lowest level pad 'the shield' which is good as it's black and can hardly been seen and so far has only had to change it once at school. This all started at the age of 6 and he's now 10, so I feel your pain, getting no where fast, daily struggles, constant worries, some help but nothing ever fixes the problem, I'd really like a cure not just something to improve his symptoms, but I do have a lovely child who despite everything is a bundle of joy (most of the time). I can't help with the Botox, but I can say that the Solifenacin is preferable to the Oxybutynin and I hope it's the same case for you too. Best wishes
Thank you for your informative reply, hopefully my daughter will have a better reaction to new medication.oxybutinin was a nightmare for her.we have to try it for 3 months first and then report back to consultant.
