Hi

So my sons aged 8 and hes been diagnosed with constipation over flow, they have decided best course of action is to give him high doses of movicol and make him wear nappies, hes got ptsd finally diagnosed last year and has suffered with constipation all his life, which we finally got control over when he was 3, unfortunately he had something happen which made him frightened to use the toilet & started starving himself, so that he didn't to use the toilet and stopped asking for

It's been a big struggle so far with conflicting medication and now we finally got another diagnosis, i just wondered if anybody had advice or tips that can help

I am so sorry that you are going through this. Unfortunately I don’t have any advice but you are not alone - many people go through this and it is not talked about enough. However I have a couple of questions. I am slighty confused is the high does of movical for disimpaction, clearing him out. I presume the nappies are to help with the messes.

Aww thanks for your kind words, the high dose is to help clear him out but they believe the blockage will take around 3 years to treat, i asked if there was any help on his mental status and the doctor was very old school and said he just treats the body

I would suggest then trying another doctor if mental status is a problem. Would you recommend nappies for constipation overflow - as although I am a have bedwetting problems as a teen they are currently trying to clear me out as they think I am constipated and think is why I bed wet. Would it be worth my if wearing them until I am cleared out - just wondering your opinion as to doctors and my mum says yes but I am not so sure

To be honest we are going to try pull up nappies and hopefully it will contain it, i think it will be very messy, as for my sons mental status i'm struggling to find anyone that's qualified in this area to treat kids, although a trauma therapist who worked with him before said that their is a psychologist in kings hospital that is specialists, who deal with adults so going to ask gp if he sees kids as well.

We see cahms for ptsd and getting nowhere ! Our son is a mess its horrid 😭

We have also been told about 100 times to under no circumstances to put pull ups or nappies or pads on him.

Our son is also 8.

They said it will make the anxiety in the PTSD worse

I'm hoping that the nappies won't make his PTSD worse, as everytime hes anxious or it triggers it he just soils himself, it's got to the point where i just throw underwear away and hes having loads of showers

Aww sorry to hear that Stephanie, unfortunately my son didn't qualify for Cahms and i was lucky to know a child trauma therapist, who identified Jaydon had PTSD at age 2 due to my domestic violence situation with his dad (only verbal, never physical), which i can now proudly say we are no longer in, my son received trauma therapy and music therapy through his children centre, which really helped and by age 3, you would hardly see the signs, associated with the PTSD was also IBS. At age 5 he had a bowl explosion at school, they handled it very badly by leaving him in his own feaces for 45mins screaming because they didn't want to help clean him up, instead they waited for my dad to pick him up and find him in a state this lead to him being afraid of toilet and stopped eating.

After a year of battling the school and council, they finally took responsibility and apologised and offered me any schl in the borough, but 3 years down the line things have got changed and got better but his body is still severely traumered

I think I may just ru with the nappies for disimpaction and hope that my anxiety won’t go through the roof. I am really hoping that by having on nappies that disimpaction wont get super messing but I know that it will. Have you tried disimpaction before - if so what methods did you use to help contain it if any at all

I'm sorry I can't help you with the PTSD side of things and I don't know if this will be helpful. We didn't want to put our son back in pull ups as we thought it was a backwards step. However it seemed to give him some dignity and take some of the pressure of him. It also gave us the confidence to do things with him so he didn't become confined to home. He now has a better way of life. Good luck and thinking of you.
