Has the doctor suggested a high enough maintenance dose perhaps?

She has cosmicol saxhets which she had 8 sachets daily before a large bowel movement then the doctor said reduce the sachets once she had a large bowel movement which I did but we are back at square one and I am aware long term use of laxatives actually cause constipation I requested an ultrasound to see if there was anything else going on with her bowels but the hospital refused and the gp keeps saying to use the laxatives so it’s quite frustrating x

Yes I agree with Robinia - you might want to think about a disimpaction and after that taking the maintenance dose down slowly so you can see how much is needed to keep it soft enough not to cause pain.

I feel for you it sounds awful!

Sounds like you need to do a disimpaction, I would have a look on the Eric website and contact Eric direct if you want to discuss it with someone medical other than your doctor, good luck!

Bless you I feel for you! Similar age to my LO. He is on the same and has a healthy diet. It's been since June 2019. I've found you need to reduce the sachets really slowly. Once they have a bowel movement continue with the same amount of sachets for at least a few days to a week then reduce by one sachet for a week. Even she they are going if you stop sachets or cut down too quick they will continue having issues. We now have 2 sachets a day, sometimes we miss a day or two but his brings us back close to square one! It's taken us a while to get to 2 sachets but currently winging it till lockdown has finished then investigating further. I have started looking at the diet and changing one thibg at a time. I know this probably isn't great advice but hope it makes you feel that you're not alone x stay strong for your little one, it's horrible seeing them in pain but the straining subsided for us when we got a balance, but if anything rocks that balance it's straight back to that square one for us so it's important to stick to it, I think ours is based around anxiety so anythibg new or big events. (Baby moving house etc) but like I say we are still trying to figure it out!

Good luck and take care!!

Thankyou for getting back to me , my LG still has 2 sachets daily but sometimes she just point blank refuses to its hard trying to get it down her, I am waiting for the gp to open on Monday and asking for some advice as the advice they gave me previously doesn’t seem to be helping it’s horrible seeing her in pain sometimes she can’t even walk ! X
