Help us please
Have you disimpacted your son with Movicol? Do you have a toilet plan in place? I can empathise with you. My youngest had the same issues but 5 years later he's on the mend. We spent 2 years on Senekot thanks to our Paediatrician. 😡 My son's been on Movicol since Boxing Day and we've never looked back. We've disimpacted him every school holiday and had a toilet plan in place for 3 years.
You can put the movicol in any squash or even make your own ice lollies with fruit juice and put it in them.
Try his favorite juice and mix it in. Let it fully dissolve. My son only drinks if it’s is plenty cold with ice. Let him go to shop and pick any drink,
Just get him to drink. Let him pick out any cool cup that he likes. Try a straw. Let him eat a few salty pretzels and have a bunch of drinks already made up?
Take the drink everywhere and let him run and jump about and get thirst up and get the drinks out! Idk how old he is but have them help you at school.
Good luck momma 😘
Hi there I hear you I really do my 9 year old daughter is still not right at it was 8 months ago!! I’d ask to see a gastroenterologist as this is what we are under now and I’ve seen a difference yet she remains in a lot of pain and it’s effecting her everyday life which is heartbreaking to see and I’m in a constant battle to get this sorted, why do we have to fight for our children’s health ?? I’ve had 8 months of hell my daughter has I’d up the Movicol ask for a X-ray this is how I found out how bad my daughter was my question now is how has it got like this?? And what is this pain?? She never had it before it’s on pressure and when walking she can’t run around with friends and wakes in night with it also can anyone help in this part??
How old is your son?
My two year old had similar issues..she used to hold her poop for days..sometimes even a week. Very strong willed. We tried different things like homeopathy, etc.
To cut it short...my pediatrician said she has to go every day to know she has to do it.
We were given infant suppository and Ezlax sachets. It was a one week to 10 days course.
It was terrible but did the job.
Even after that I was advised not to let her go without pooping for 3 days max.
Lots of water and prune juice also helped.
Tried flaxseed oil too.
But the thing that always works when I think she needs to clear out is castor oil( u have to get the one that kids can ingest). You will get results in 6 hrs max.
So still once in two weeks or so I give her.
She is still doing once in two or three days...but progressing. She is 3 and a half years now. So it takes time patience and tears.
All the best to you. Dont let him hold for too long. Even if you have to be firm and get it down, do it.
You can hide movicol in soup if you are really struggling. There are some real good suggestions here.
My son is 7 and we starting battling contispation since he was 2.5.
The one thing i have learnt is be open minded to other things and take a multiple direction approach.
Things that have helped us is the use of a chiropractor, function medicine practitioner, used Epson salts, keeping our son very active ie swimming, cycling (helps with the movement) The Key is to get them unblocked and to really push the nhs ie. Ring them constantly if your child is deteriorating or you don't get appointments. The one tip I was given was don't loose your temper in frustration. Cry if you have got to Cry!!!
There are clinics that deal with constipation in certain counties. If you get a peaditrian referal push for a gastroentoligst counsultant.
Deep baths, gym ball etc may help with some of the pain.
Good luck, my heart is with you.
Please watch/read the advice on Eric website re:Movicol/Laxido. It's a stool softener rather than laxative. My daughter has 8sachets per day with squash, 10ml Sodium picosulfate and 15-20ml Sennokot. If she doesn't go twice a day we are in trouble. She's had full investigations, botox, enema/suppositories programme(shes refused it now). Her bowel has a stretched pocket in it due to withholding that may recover in a few years(it only takes one 'bad' painful poo for them to withhold-subconsciously in my daughters case). If you do use movicol/laxido for a 'clear out' it's vital that the dose is reduced slowly after otherwise its back to the start! I fear dependence on these medications but we are stuck for now😕Good Luck, you're not alone.
