How long for movicol to work?

Just that really! We have been given Movicol paediatric with senna and we started with them on Thursday night hoping that the worst of it would be over by Monday morning. Nope! Apart from a bit of a squitty poo this morning we have had nothing! Can anyone please advise? TIA

I have upped the dose of movicol but the boy does not like the senna so it is a struggle to even get him to take what has been prescribed. Currently on 3.3 mls. Things have started to happen but it is not as dramatic as I thought it would be! What would you up the Senna to?

MY little boy did not like the taste either so I used to put it in juice for him,

It trail and error with the senna try gradually increasing it to see what happens , my little boy was on 8ml of senna which made him go it’s different for everybody which dose works best

What dose of Movicol have you been giving and are you mixing it with the recommended amount of water? Also are you following the disimpaction regime to clear a backlog of impacted poo or are you aiming for a maintenance dose to keep things moving?

As SallyandPaul says, I usually find it takes 24-36 hours for Movicol to make a difference for my son. It took longer when we did out first disimpaction though, I think because the impacted poo was very hard so it took a while for the Movicol to start breaking it down. We needed to get up to the maximum 8 sachets for 2-3 days before things really started to happen.

My 3 year old is currently between 6 and 7 sachets a day as that amount seems to work for her as the 2-4 sachets have been turning her poop a sticky black colour again and she’s also on 2.5ml of senna x
