Hi! My problem is nighttime wetting, I am using a bed alarm but I am really scared because I am now at secondary school and I will start to go on school trips. Any advice because I can't handle this on my own πŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘Ž

Hi! My son is 13 and still wets at night time - most of the time! We haven't tried the alarm yet although we have one, because for various reasons it has never been the right time! Sounds like you're doing all the right things. I have some suggestions for you.

First thing is that if you are going on a trip, that you and your parents discuss this with the teachers - there will be other children with the same problem, or there will have been in previous years. They may be able to help you with a plan to manage this while away while maintaining your privacy.

My son boards at his school from Monday to Friday, and they are completely used to this issue - we provided a protection mat for his bed and he wears his Dry Nites (which sometimes leak now) and has lots of spare PJs. They wake him up a bit earlier than the others in his dorm so he can pop out and take them off and dispose of the Dry Nites before the others see.

Funnily enough when he is at school he wets less than at home - maybe because he is in a more unfamiliar place so perhaps doesn't fall into such a deep sleep. Also when you are on the trips you might be staying up a bit later so will be having your last wee later.

The other thing is to ask if you have discussed a medicine called Desmopressin with your doctor? It makes your body produce less wee overnight. We haven't tried it yet but I've read that it's really useful for trips away. Maybe you could get some to try in advance, so you can see if it suits you and works - there are some strict instructions about not drinking after you've taken it though.

Basically the main thing is for you and your parents to start chatting to the school staff early on about this, so you can find a plan that works well in advance of your trips, so you don't have to worry, and also maybe go to see your doctor if you haven't done that recently.
