disimpaction finished?

we have struggled with our nearly 3 year old withholding stool for over a year, was advised to do a disimpaction regime. Started this on the 19/4 and got her up to the max dose of 8 by the 23/4 as she was already on 3 a day. Have been on 8 since and have been getting a mix of different consistencies since. Definitely had the waster tea coloured poo but not had two in a row. Then go back to getting the picture above.

I called the GP this morning to see if I needed to add a stimulant as per the Eric website. However GP seems to think disimpaction is complete and to now start reducing laxido? Just look for advice on people who have been through this. Thanks

No, you need watery stools with no lumps.

Thanks for your reply. I thought as much, will she reach it without a stimulant? Why has the GP advised differently? Do I just buy a stimulant and keep her on the 8 per day?

You can add a stimulant after two weeks as per the NICE Guidelines. Unfortunately, Drs are poorly educated in this area and often tell you to drop far too quickly when you should keep going. I would have a look at the Eric website as there is a wealth of information on this there.

We are on the same journey as you, a few days ahead. We kept getting a mixture of textures, lumpier in the morning and more watery in the day. Then a random gravy texture or melted chocolate texture so i believed this to be too thick still and not consistent enough but its so hard to tell. We are on day 24 - day 6 with the stimulant added (prescribed by paediatrician and GP) (also on 8 saches) and i think we are there now. The stimulant has given her more consistent watery poo’s. I cant advise what to do for your child but i think the stimulant added has worked for us.

Hi thank you so much for your reply, it’s comforting to know someone is in the same place as us.

What stimulant were you given and how much are you giving daily? Did the gp advise how long they could stay on the stimulant also?

Have bought docustate sodium and going to start it today with the 8, feel like this will never end.

I think you should go up to the Max dose of 12 satchets per day and add the stimulant

As per NICE Guidelines, the maximum dose for a child aged 1-5 years is 8 sachets.
