Hi. I have to give my 8yr old a micro enema at home tonight. He's been having 12 sachets of Movicol and 3 doses of Docusate a day and nothings really working. Does anyone have any experience of micro enemas please? x

We had to give our girl micro enemas, think she was 5/6 at the time. Shown how to use them in hospital. She was on 12 sachets of movicol a day for a long period, so it was seen as the next step. After taking the enema she used to be in real pain and cramps as they started to work, it was loads of cuddles and tears but most times they worked and we had movement/explosion. I did not like giving and she did not like but it was the only thing at the time that made her go. We were then prescribed Senna tablets which was a turning point for us. We still used the enemas when necessary. Hope all went as well as these things can.

Oh your poor girl. Such a traumatic thing for our kids to go through. It's nice to hear things got better though. My son had his 2nd one tonight and there's been nothing other than a bit of overflow. We have a follow up appointment with the GP tomorrow and I think we will be sent to hospital. I just can't wait for this to be over. He already copes with so much x

Did they tell you to use KY jelly? It helps with administering the enema. With my son we did it on the sofa with him on his side and his legs drawn up as much as poss and a towel under him and the TV on to distract him. It helps if they can relax, good luck x

Hi. Yes we used lubricant. 2 enemas done and nothing other than a bit of overflow has come out. We are back with the GP tomorrow and i think he'll admit my son into hospital. Thanks for your help x
