Anyone have luck with M.O.P enema based regime? My son is almost 7 and we're considering. Not sure if his dr. will be on board. We've been to Boston Children's Hospital for 1 1/2 yrs. and Behavioral Counselor. We're exhausted.

Anyone have luck with M.O.P enema based regime?
Hi deliaok,
Apologies, what does M.O.P stand for?
Called Modified O'Regan Protocal, but mainly it's using enemas first daily for about a month then tapering off. To clear clogged colon and hopefully return to normal width and tone.
Have you read the book? Its no accident by Steve J Hodges it’s brilliant, it discusses that approach and I feel I’ve got more useful advise from it than from any consultant we’ve seen and we’ve seen a few! My son has had about 15 enemas in total now and although they haven’t cleared the main impaction as yet, I do think they help. I do think in America they treat constipation more aggressively as the book states which I think is what is needed in alot of cases.
Let me know how it goes. I'm reading the book now. We went to Children's Hospital for 1 1/2 yrs. but it was just Exlax and Mirolax OTC meds and just created a relative poo disaster. Then saw a behaviorial psych for a bit. I'm afraid his primary pediatrician won't support the enema approach but I think I want to go forward.
Will you be able to get that many enemas? That was my only concern. We are allowed some on prescription each month but nowhere near enough for everyday and I do think a few times a week would be helpful perhaps if you use along with the Mirolax ( I believe that’s equivalent to Movicol. Have you had an X-ray done recently?
Not recently but his first one with children's he was full. I don't think children's hospital ever proposed the ideas of enemas. I was exhausted with sticker charts and describing his poo. Couldn't take it any more. Amazon has 12 packs of kids enemas available for about $27 USD.
Since I am telecommuting right now and home he's basically hanging out naked and giving him lots of Mirolax (just googled it is the same as Movicol. He uses the toilet more when he's naked. But at almost 7, I may create an nudist! Lol
That made me laugh. Has he had an enema before? My sons had one done by a nurse and one by a consultant but the rest I’ve had to do for him at home. The key to success is trying to get them to hold it for as long as possible as that makes it so much more effective but that my sons says is the worst bit🙁
Hi,
We've been pointed towards MOP by the bowel&bladder nurse for my 8 year old daughter. I've been doing a lot of reading online and have just received the book. We are very keen to try this method as nothing else has worked for the last 4 years. Did you get the enemas prescribed by a specialist? Or did you buy them yourself and just got started? If the latter do you have a link of what you bought as I can't get a direct answer from our nurse about what to use. She's on bysocadil suppositories at the moment but they are starting to loose their effect so I'm very keen to move on asap.
Also keen to know what your progress has been so far as I can see your post is from 4 months ago.
Many thanks!
Hi, we looked into this and very interested to try. Bought the adult and kids book. However our dr was very against the enimas So we have him on a lot of mirolax (us brand name). We had hoped his colon has been shrinking back to regular size but when we reduce the quantity he has accidents again. So it's either full diarrhea or accidents and streaks. He's 7.
