i had to lose weight to have my lap done, well they said that my problems were all related to weight, and if i lost weight that all my pain and problems would disappear. i have lost 5 and a half stone since last april, my pain did not disappear and they did my lap and found severe endo, but anyway i have lost my weight doing slimming world, and lots of walking, with slimming world i found it the most normal way of eating 'normal food' and yes i have bad days or weeks where i eat more naughties than i should but overall i've averaged 1.5lbs per week, but its not been consistent but as long as the average is good.

if you want any further advice just ask or private message - good luck xx

Hi

Thank you for this. My doctor said that with pcos its a catch 22 as it causes you to gain weight but then losing weight helps. I am going to look in to slimming world and Weight watchers and see what one is the best. some people have advised me to do cambridge and other liquid ones but i dont want to have to give up eating completely so need something that i can actually eat foods with to

Well done on your weight loss 5.5 stone is really good thats what i am aiming to lose to but i want to do it in 6 months but if i will be able to or not i dont know xx

Hi Mazzda,

I feel your pain- I have PCOS too and the gynae said the same to me about loosing weight. I have been fighting to loose weight for the last two years an it has been very difficult. I'm getting married in June and want to conceive soon so she said this should be an extra incentive. I wouldn't mind but my bmi is 25- so not drastic.

It is such a Catch 22 and I think too many doctors think weight is to blame for everything! I am more worried about long term weight loss if this is something I have to deal with forever. The only tip can offer is eating less, and I have cut out dairy- but like I say, I don't know how long term this is xx

aw bless i know how hard it is and i am the worst person for thinking oh i will just treat myself as never do but the truth is i always do. i need something that is easy and dosent take alot of preperation as working full time it is annoying having to prepare food constatly. I am cutting out carbs altogether this is tough but its a start and just eating right i am only on day 2 so we will see what happens and also walking more and running

good luck keep intouch if you need any help x x

I have done just about every diet under the sun, Cambridge, slim fast, Atkins, egg and grapefruit, cabbage soup the list is endless, this has all gone on for the last twenty five years.....all those diets will help you lose weight quickly but the moment you return to any type of normal eating the weight comes back, with interest! Lol. Weight watchers is ok, but i found I would spend my points on goodies instead of healthier things, slimming world is the only plan that seems to teach you about good normal food that keeps you fuller for longer, and if Ido eat something for a treat such as a takeaway or chocoate or whatever it doesn't bring it crashing down on me, I just move on and carry on with the plan. It's all very cliche but it really is down to changing habits and planning, the old 'lifestyle change' its annoying to hear but it's so true, I wish it hasn't taken me twenty five years to finally do it, and at least I know I'm eating a fairly healthy diet which helps with my symptoms - good luck and again any help just message xx

With PCOS you don't process food in the same way so put on more weight from food than other people do. There is some statistic that I can't remember exactly, but it's something like food has in effect an extra 20% calories for women with pcos.

Carbs and sugars are specifically bad for pcos so maybe better to avoid standard diets. Your GP should be able to refer you to endocrinologist who specialise in hormones and should be able to help with the pcos. Have a look at the Verity website - there is loads of specific diet help on there.

It is very true that for most people (not all) pcos symptoms improve when you have a lower bmi; as far as im aware weight doesn't have much bearing on endo.

Good luck honey xxx

P.s. I too am a pcos and endo sufferer so know your pain! X

My friend has pcos. She lost was very overweight and unable to conceive. She took up fast walking every morning for about an hour. She lost the weight and eventually had two children.
