I had a Lap about 3 weeks ago, doctor said stitches would come out themselves within 2 weeks after op, however

they are still there 3 weeks later. Has anybody else experienced this? if so should i go see my doctor to get them removed? I know these are silly questions but i'm really worried about it. Thanks

Go to your surgery. I had an umbilical hernia operation and was told I had dissolving stitches inside. They weren't. One ended up nearly poking through my belly button!! They used the wrong stitches. I had them removed when having an endo op a few months later!! I hope you get sorted soon.

I had the dissolvable stitches after mine and it took about 4 weeks for them to come out completely xx

I was given dissolvable stitches but was told to go to nurse in a week because they take ages to dissolve, They give us them because they are less painful to be removed. xx

I had a lap in Nov and got told exactly the same. After two weeks I went to see the nurse at my GPs surgery and she removed them, see told me that they would never have dissolved as they were the wrong material. Bit painful when they were being removed but no issues afterwards. Don't hesitate, see your GPs nurse, good luck.

Hi mixiemoonie. Dissolvable sutures can sometimes take 6 weeks or more to completely dissolve. Daily baths or showers will help the process. Being a nurse I took my own out after 4 weeks as I could feel them pulling. Obviously I don't recommend you do this. But if your worried about it or just feel that they are ready to come out then go see your practice nurse x

This happened to me too, I phoned my GP & the hospital as they were tight &uncomfortable. & none of them could tell me definitely if they were dissolvable! Their advice was to leave it a couple more weeks & if they were still there to go in! It took about four weeks of discomfort but eventually they did go. If you are worried talk to your doctor or practice nurse. Good luck!

I had to take my own out after a week, they had done it in such a way that they had pulled quite a bit of skin together and pulled it tight so every movement I was tearing the skin with the stitches. I wouldn't suggest taking them out without medical care but I was on holiday and watched videos on how to do it with care and make things sterile. I wasn't told if mine were dissolvable or not so I was stuck on what to do, I haven't managed to get them all out so I still have one healed in my skin that is pulling the scar tight so I hope to get my second lap soon so they can take it out. Sorry for not having much advice but I would just go see your gp or go to a&e (unless you live in Stafford lol) Good luck and hope all you girls feel well soon.
