Most of us have. If the bulk of the endo pain happens when you are having a period, then it stands to reason that stopping your period will also considerably reduce the cramping and pain caused by a monthly bleed. I don't imagine there's a single person on this forum that has the mirena in for contraception alone.

For me it has been fantastic and life changing, but for all those who find it a great help, there are a lot of ladies that find it doesn't suit them at all.

I would recommend giving it go. It does take several months to get going, but once it does, then your periods should stop for the remainder of the 5 years. It can always be removed if it doesn't suit you.

It is not a pain killer, the relief comes from stopping your uterus thinking it has to menstruate every month. which is a big relief.

I still have endo in my bowel and bladder and elsewhere that bleeds but the uterus occasionally just spots and sometimes has a tiny crampy feeling every now and then, but it's nothing like cramps and niagara falls that it used to be. It makes coping with everything else a lot easier.

What treatment are you on Zoladex? I felt the pain disapeared with zoladex but the hot flushes were awful! .. Oooo dear! You poor thing! Thank you very much, Im going to speak to the GP about it, giving anything a go at the moment, lets hope I am one of the ones where it is good, having a bit of 50 50 at the moment. Best of luck to you! Let me know how you get on xx

I was on zoladex, and the mirena is a vast improvement for me. because there are hardly any side effects at all, whereas zoladex was constant horrid side effects.

My mirena was put in under general anaesthetic during an operation, but if that is not an option then yes do take pain killers in good time before hand and tell them to stop if it gets too painful, and ask to be referred to the hospital where the mirena can be put in with the help of entonox (gas and air) which will calm you down when it gets really sore down there.

It might be better to ask your doc to refer you to the hospital to have this done anyway, so you can be booked in for entonox right away and save wasting a very expensive Mirena.
