Hi

My first scans were nhs (now private) and my GP told me it would be 2-3 weeks but i didnt get a letter for an appointment for about 3-4 weeks and then the appointment was for about 3 weeks time, so 7 weeks. I wasn't too happy and did chase it up quite a lot but there were quite a few bank holidays and it's a small hospital.

Hope you don't wait too long. Once you get a letter with a date it's worth phoning to see if there's a cancellations list etc. or if you get worse before that go back to your GP to chase it up. Unfortunately it's a waiting game x

7 weeks? That is shocking! I was told 2-3 weeks by my GP too. Dont understand this, she said she was sending me for an ultra sound then after the results i will get referred to a gyno for further testing!! I just said okay thats fine cause the words endometriosis and ultra sound scan shocked me.

I hope i get a date soon cause im starting to feel really sick cause of the pain. Is that normal? x

i think it will vary depending upon where you live - have you made a note in your diary when you last saw the doc and they would do the referral? from gp referral to actual hospital appointments, all mine have generally been 5-7 wks, with the appointment letter coming 3-4 wks after referral date. if you haven't heard after 3 wks give the gp reception a ring, make sure the referral was put through, the annoying thing is after any hospital appointment, it then takes 2-3 wks for results to get back to my gp, even though the hospital say a week it never is, so by the time you get to see the gp with results and then she refers you back to gynae its another 2 months after original scan etc - i've got my next scan this thursday and hopefully things will move on from there as some days are almost impossible - i wouldn't worry about any further testing yet with gynae, just get your scan out of the way first and see what it turns up and then you and gp can discuss what is next - hope you hear soon xx

aww man! there was a letter from NHS in the mail today and to be fair I did get a little excited thinking the process was getting started but it was for my mum lol not impressed! Im going to make a note of the date i went to the doctors to get a referral then chase up if i havent received a letter. xx

Haha I was like that too! It's frustrating, but now I try to see the positive side (very small positive!) of the initial appointments taking a while, although it wasn't nice to be left waiting with symptoms that continued to get worse etc it did mean that by the time I saw the doctors each time I could give them more and more info on my symptoms (e.g. patterns throughout the month etc) which I do think helped get the next steps with the gynae sorted out quicker. Fingers crossed you get your appointment soon x

Aww thanks. I really should start writing down my symptoms and all that. I keep forgetting though. Im doing Open University too so I have all this pain and im tired a lot of the time and doing uni is getting to me so writing my symptoms down is a challenge, i forget xx

yes try to keep a brief diary of symptoms - i just write if bleeding or spotting etc, and if had any severe pain that made me have to rest and where the pain was, as i have a dull pain everyday so i dont bother writing that lol, but yes it builds up a pattern for them to look at then, as i worked out i am bleeding more 50% of the time and thats not including spotting or mucous - i have the mirena coil so i shouldn't be bleeding as much as that now as its been in for a year, but i just think at least its better than i was as before the coil i could not even go out at times of bleeding xxx

and yes i know its a pain writing it down but an example of mine would be 'heavy bleed, lower left pelvic sharp stabbing pain along with contraction type pain for 6 hrs, also lower left back pain' - it doesn't need to be full on essay lol as they dont read it all but keeping it brief just so that you can give them facts and figures etc will make them take notice xx

Thanks. All I need now is a small notebook to write it in haha. Been up since 5 today with on and off pain in my left side, like someone was stabbing me! It went from every 5 mins for not that long to every so often. Im shattered. xx
