i take co-codamol and either diclofenac (voltorol) or mefanamic acid - mefanamic acid though can sometimes upset my stomach too much, i always take omeprazol with them to protect my stomach though as all tablets do upset me, and to be honest a lot of the time those tablets do not even touch the pain so most times i don't bother and just suffer the pain and use a hot water bottle and tens machine if i'm at home - the doc has given me tramadol in the past but they make me like a zombie and i hallicinate with them so i don't ever use them now - it's strange how you become accustomed to the pain, and accept it as part of your daily life xx

Depends on level of pain. For mild relief I take nurofen plus with paracetamol. If I think that won't work I take prescibed co-codamol, and if I am really suffering I take tramadol. I can't remember a day when I haven't taken tablets though and I do worry what it is doing to my body long term xx

I take an identical 'menu' of pain relief to that of Katt. Nurofen + can be over looked in favour of prescription meds but I've found that after 15yrs of continuous use it never lets me down. I've had the meds mentioned in Katt's answer prescribed for me by a pain nurse after my last operation, they haven't let me down in years. For your own peace of mind, list all those you've seen in these answers, review them on the NHS medication site and then discuss with your GP if you'd like to try one or more xx.

I'm allergic to codeine and in the past have not had much relief from pain with the painkillers I was given. I have diclofenac and have been on it for years yet was only told last week I should be taking something to protect my stomach so am now taking omeprazole with it. I am regularly on mefanamic acid. Since my hospital addmission last week I have been taking paracetamol, tramadol, lactulose, declofenac, omeprazole and oramorph. I'm also taking anti-sickness tables. I will be on this until my operation in a couple of weeks time.
