personal discovery: don't curl into a ball/fetal position!!!

Hi all,

I've previously only made one post here and since then I've made a really important discovery about my personal pain. Usually I experience intense pain such as the following I shared in my first post:

"I will be woken up in the night with mild ovary cramps (a sign that it's about to get worse), before this quickly evolves into nausea, full body shock/pain, unable to move, talk or breathe normally because of the pain - I also develop a full fever and sweat uncontrollably (beads of fluid run off my entire body for at least 30 minutes and drench my clothes and bedsheets). This can all last between 30-120 minutes at present."

Usually when this type of pain would start and throughout, I would curl up on my side in fetal position - as this is just the position my body would naturally want to go into, to deal with the pain. But in my previous period I discovered that this position was making my pains worse!!! It's actually much better if I prop myself into a sitting position with cushions at a 45 degree angle and keep my legs straight. Naturally it feels uncomfortable, I want to curl up and I am still in pain but it's nowhere near the levels described above. I'm just sharing in the hopes that maybe it can help someone else on here.

Obviously all our bodies are different (preaching to the choir here, to everyone with ovaries lol) and I understand this won't work for everyone but I'm hopeful it could help someone. Failing that, this is a super important discovery I have made about myself (: Hopefully it will prevent my pains becoming that bad again (fingers crossed).

Hi, that's an interesting discovery. Thanks for sharing! This reminded me of another person with endo saying a trigger for them was tight-waisted clothing (underwear, pants, etc.).

Thanks for replying (: Hope it can help people.

Yes! I am exactly the same I cannot wear tight waisted clothing on or near period bc it causes intense pains. It's very annoying.

this literally helped me the other night and has done since!

I keep getting woken up by abdominal pain on right side (think it’s gas or stool getting stuck) and so instinctively I roll onto my left to ‘relieve’ the pressure of the right side.

Had it a for months on end, even began lying on my left with a pregnancy pillow between my legs..anyway your post popped into my head so I rolled myself over onto my belly and the pain reduced. I waited a bit and could actually feel whatever’s stuck in there moving, so I then rolled onto my right and BOOM, pretty much within minutes it moved again, the pain was gone and I was like ‘well I’ll be damned’!

So your little personal discovery helped me with one of my own! I now roll onto my front or right side whenever I get the pain and it’s the same every time! Such a relief!!! 👏👏👏
