Faster endo operation maybe?

Just thought this might be interesting info. I had a laparoscopy last year in August for an ovarian cyst, but they found quite advanced endo. I had an MRI after this and There was endo adhesions on my bowel and close to my ureter so they decided it needed to be removed.

At the consultant appointment, they said that as my MRI was in November, they were going to push for me to have my op before April as if it was later than that, I would need another MRI. He said that a lot of women are falling into a cycle in this way and surgeons are trying to push to NHS to prioritize cases to overcome this cycle.

I don't know if this pressure will mean a quick operation for definite, but I did get my pre op appointment through yesterday for mid March so I am hopeful.

Yes, this is the cycle these surgeons are trying to get out of. He said there should be a similar pressure as there is with cancer treatment because the cycle is costing them so much money. I have no idea how widespread this is or how successful it will end up being but I have my fingers crossed. I am in the north of England near Manchester.

I was told at my injection this week that the surgery times by goverment have to cone down from 80 weeks to 65 and ive been waiting 41 since signed the forms. Soon as ive had a new mri they are gonna push from may and we now have a 4th endo surgeon starting to help with the waiting list.Hope you get sorted soon as this disease is awful

That the waiting list times have to come down is also positive. I think we all need some positive news with this. Really hope we do get sorted soon and the ops give us the results we need.

Hi can I ask where in UK you are? I had mri in November but not received pre op appointment yet for similar bowel and hysterectomy. Was wondering when I should ring and query about pre op or surgery confirmation, they said could be in next few months, last one got cancelled

Hi, I'm near Manchester in the north. In my case the surgeons are putting pressure on by saying in their letters that they want the operation done by April. I have only just got my pre op appointment and I don't know if I will get an op date soon, but I'm hopeful.

You’re incredibly lucky. I had my laparoscopy in October 2023 which found severe Endo. I’ve been waiting for my hysterectomy and excision since then! My surgery date is next week.

Congratulations on your operation appointment. I was honestly shocked when April was mentioned as I had read the experiences of a lot of other women. My surgeon said that the scan/surgery cycle a lot of women get into costs the NHS a lot of money so they are hoping to put pressure on to change it. I really hope this is a sign things could change for the better for us.

I truly hope they speed things up for people waiting. I had my laparoscopy may 23 and was put on the urgent op list and they should be operating 24/02/25 but, I have had to move surgeons and hospitals in order to be done this "soon".

I know it's not the fault of the staff but it is unfair and in humane to be leaving people so long and in pain, especially when it takes years of fighting to get to the point of a laparoscopy and diagnosis.

Yes, this is spot on. Endo causes so much pain but you are expected to just deal. I have to admit that prostap has helped me a lot, but hoping I am completely pain free after the op.
