Nothing seen on Ultrasound

Hi guys,I have been having symptoms of endometriosis for around a year and a half now but have no official diagnosis for it yet. I am trying my best to build up evidence of my symptoms and fight with the doctors for more investigation.

However, a few months a good I had all the blood tests and scans to see if there was anything else happening which all came back clear, including the ultrasound? This was a vaginal and abdominal ultrasound to see what they could see but this came back clear but I am not entirely sure what they were looking for (ovary issues, PCOS maybe)

I was hoping anyone could suggest my next steps if I continue to investigate if it's endometriosis further or is there are other scans tests to do to check anything.

My symptoms and pain are becoming more and more of an issue every month to now making me take days off work for it.

bless you it’s such a tough job to keep advocating for yourself.

I’ve had a similar experience. I discovered emailing the gynae secretary with questions, updates, has made a real difference to being heard, also going back to the GP more often than I had been, asking for answers, if it’s not that then what is it etc.

I wish I’d known this 2 years ago. They put me on watch and wait as fibroids too small to be bothered about and ignored my pains. Bleeding complicated by thyroid diagnosis. Now I’m having an MRI later this week and have been told to expect hysteroscopy and laparoscopy following that.

Also paid £250 to see a private gynae that is top local surgeon and he confirmed MRI via NHS first and then he’d operate either NHS or private depending on what that shows. More complex of endo then via NHS, less complex hysterectomy then private and within a few weeks.

Good luck! Pester them 🙏

hey babe, all my ultrasounds showed nothing. I have countless amounts of them over the years, until I finally switched doctors and a female doctor took my symptoms seriously. Normally they have to do tick-boxing with endo to rule legit every test method out before surgery, which I was told is the only real way to diagnose it properly. You have so really push got be taken seriously with this, which is incredibly unfair. I kept calling again and again for the same reasons and spoke to every doctor at every practise until someone listened. U have to almost spell it out for doctors, start saying u want to undergo the endometriosis diagnosis surgery. I’m so sorry they’re pushing you away and not helping, I hope you find some answers soon x

Most endo isn't seen on an ultrasound.

From the NICE guidelines -

1.5.4

Do not exclude the possibility of endometriosis if the abdominal or pelvic examination and ultrasound scan are normal, and recognise that referral may still be necessary even with a normal scan.

Read the NICE guidelines, print them out and go back to your doctor with them.
