Hi,

I was given a similar diagnosis, but was unsure about having a full hysterectomy and bowel surgery. I didn’t ask questions in my appointment (I think I was in shock, having always been told there was nothing wrong and “we all experience pain differently”), but I later called the nurse to find out more and was given the opportunity to speak with the same consultant again. I’m glad I did because we agreed on less extensive surgery as a first stage.

I am not medically qualified, but I recently had surgery, including ureterolysis, which was to free ureter (carries pee from kidney) because it was stuck to my uterus due to adhesions caused by endometriosis. I didn’t want to have a bowel resection because it would have required a colostomy. Instead, they shaved as much endometrial tissue from my bowel as they could, but part of my bowel is still attached to my uterus due to adhesions.

Your consultant should have explained what the procedures are so you fully understand. If they didn’t, I would follow up and ask to speak to them again. Don’t be embarrassed about asking questions and making a fuss. It’s your body and you should decide what you want to happen to it.

I hope this helps. Best of luck x

When my consultant phoned it was 3hr past appointment time as they were so busy, all I got on the phone was its I was expecting. Told me surgery and I'm going on prostap injections. It was only until I got my letter , it said I need excision of deep infiltration of endometriosis, ureterolysis, rectal resection and hysterectomy keeping the ovaries due to age , I was really shocked, like no one has explained nothing to Me at all , just stuck waiting until I get my date
