pain relief options

hi all,

I’m wondering if anyone can recommend any types of pain relief (something stronger than paracetamol and ibruprofen) that would be safe to use if TTC? I have tried codeine but although it works quickly and well, it’s very short lived (wears off within 30-45 mins) and pretty much knocks me out. A few people have suggested mefenamic acid but I understand that this isn’t good to take if TTC.

I just need something that’s really effective if I’m out on the go and my period comes on, but probably would try to avoid using it all the time.

thanks everyone for your help!

Ta

Hi I usually find codrydomel (not sure of spelling) usually helps for when my pain is bad. But try not to take it all of the time as it can become addictive.

Hi, I use naproxen for my period pain, but I find it's most effective if you're able to start taking it 2-3 days before your period starts so it's got time to build up in your system. So I guess it depends if you're able to predict your periods or not, but even the night before is better than nothing! It's a stronger anti-inflammatory than ibuprofen and I don't get any side effects because I don't take it too often.

I’m on tramadol and sepostries but when the pain is at its worst it makes no difference, tbh they are reluctant to give me anything stronger so I’m going to start early menopause to see if that helps with the pain at all xx

I've been TTC for the last year and on mefenamic acid, I've been told it's fine to use as long as I am certain my period has started first

I had never heard that mefenamic acid wasn’t good if TTC! Ooos! We’ve been TTC for almost 18 months and I take mefenamic acid only when my period has started for my worst pains. I don’t take it throughout the month for other cycle related pain. Definitely speak to your GP or specialist and see what they recommend.

I think paramol are good and you can still take them with ibuprofen. No idea if it’s safe when TTC but it’s just paracetamol and codine so I would have thought so if they both are?

hey, I would double check if safe when TTC but I find the closest to paracetamol and ibroprufen for me is Cuprofen because codeine makes me sick. They’re (i think) just stronger ibroprufen? They’re pink. I just find they really work for me and if I know the pain is so bad that normal options don’t work I just take one of these and it eases. I don’t think you can take them with paracetamol or ibroprufen just on their own.

I’m so sorry to hear this, this must be so hard. The wait to be diagnosed is horrendous isnt it and the treatment and pain relief options are so limited. Sending you tons of love and well wishes ❤️
