Hiya, I'm new to this.. For years I have been suffering with pain. I got told by doctors everytime I have had scans I have a cyst on my left ovary, this cyst has been there for 6 years, it hasn't seem to have gotten bigger, pretty content cyst. The pain seems to vary, from my left side and my right side but is mostly occurring on my left side, it's a stabbing pain but it does not just happen when my period arrives, it happens regularly (every week) sometimes unbearable and sometimes manageable. The pain has gotten so bad on times I havent been able to stand straight, walk or talk. I experience statica symptoms aswell, with the pain in my lower back and it even effects my legs, makes me feel sick and I am so tired sometimes. Also after intercorse I get aching pains in my lower left aswell. I am currently on the mini pill which has stopped my periods, when i wasnt on the mini pill my periods were irregular and heavy but unfortunately even on the mini pill i still get period symptoms without bleeding, but still pain can be unbearable, my job consists on my standing and walking around but my left side hurts if I stand for too long and going for a jog is out of the question due to the pain. I have even had to leave work early due to how much pain I have been in because I couldn't stand up due to my left side and pain down my leg.I have been suffering for years and have been palmed off and kept getting told it is the cyst causing discomfort or it could be IBS. Until I finally managed to get an appointment with a specialist and he told me it sounds and seems like it could be Endometriosis. I didn't know what it was and he explained it to me and said my symptoms pointed to endo. He examined me and I was in pain afterwards, he could see how much pain I was in after the examination and referred me to have another scan and put me on a waiting list to have a laparoscopy for an official diagnosis. I had my scan and suprise, suprise the cyst was still there but they couldn't see any Endometriosis on the scan.

I have finally been given a date for my laparoscopy surgery and will be taking place next week. I'm very nervous as I have never had surgery before. But more nervous because of how many years I have been told it is IBS and probably nothing, that they may not find anything. I know this pain isn't normal, just feel a bit on my own with it.

Has anyone else had symptoms like this that has been diagnosed with Endometriosis? And also how long was your recovery after surgery? I'm nervous and just reaching out so I don't feel so on my own through this.

Thank you in advance x

Hi

I have some of your symptoms I least have pain post internal examination and during which makes it difficult for them to get got pictures endo doesn't always show on scans and can be widespread despite this. I was operated on by gynae for unrelated reason and they discovered my stage iv Endo asking me when woke up why hadn't said anything about pain (was 20+ years ago now) said always had been thought was normal, gp always said was ibs

Its understandable you are nervous about the lap. Make sure take book or music in with you to listen to while you wait to go down, and have loose/baggy clothing to wear afterwards. Even if they let you out same day gonna need lots of rest and take time to recover fully.

Good luck with the op
