Hello, is there anyone whose job is a registered nurse? I'm right at the end of my training, weeks from qualifying and yet I was sent home yesterday because I barely could walk and I've been in bed ever since. At the end of September I hope to start my job as a scrub nurse but questioning my choices as I will be on my feet during surgeries and once scrubbed in, won't be able to go to the toilet every 20 minutes when I'm on my period.I habe my excision surgery mid August which I hope is going to be the answer to all my prayers, but I think I'm being unrealistic.

Can a nurse tell me how you manage flare ups and worl commitments?

Thank you

Hi, sorry I'm not a Nurse but I do work in a rehabilitation therapy role in a hospital. I just wanted to remind you that you can access occupational health who can help with identifying reasonable adjustments to help you at work. I would say it helps to have a think yourself / research so you can come prepared for your meeting and have some ideas to discuss x

Hi! I’m a nurse and work in theatres also, however I’m ana anaesthetic nurse so work in the anaesthetic room and PACU. Work know about my condition and have been in touch with occupational health.

But yes, not sure which theatres you’ll be working in but if you end up scrubbed up for hours on end during a flare you can’t really leave. It just depends on how severe they are and if you can manage them. A lot of a nursing jobs are very demanding and being on your feet a lot. How have you found your nursing course? Did you find certain areas easier than others for managing flare ups?

I’m not a nurse but a healthcare assistant I had excision surgery back in may and my pain levels have gone right back up again depending on how bad the endo is you can get it back or it can go into remission before my op could hardly walk then I was able to walk a bit better now the pain is so bad again I struggle on my feet but am on a phased return and had around 6 weeks off

I used to be a teacher for a couple of years but gave it up in my mid 20s as it's difficult to be in a people facing job and on my feet all day when I had my period and mid cycle. So much pain and so much blood loss. In my late 20s now with a toddler and life is less stressful even though I'm still suffering with pain and heavy periods.

My friend has a different hidden disability that's actually a physical disability. She says she'll never go back to the NHS (high paying professional health role) as they treated her appallingly and didn't like her working part time. The NHS really dislike employees that aren't completely healthy.
