Benefit of private consultation, Adeno & Fybroids

Hi this is the first time I have posted here, but have been following messages for a while and just wanted to share the positive experience I’ve had with a private consultation.

I started in November last year with what I would describe as hemorrhaging. I’ve always had heavy periods but this was uncontrolled bleeding which required a super plus Tampax, a maternity pad and an incontinence nappy just to leave the bathroom! After many trips to gp I ended up in hospital with HB of 58, so ill I could barely walk up the stairs in my house. I was diagnosed with Adenomyosis, multi fibroid bulky uterus, the biggest fibroid is 9cm. I requested a hysterectomy but bloods were too low so I was put on Prostap and sent away with no follow up. Although the hemorrhaging has stopped, I have bled pretty much every day since December last year. My life is on hold, I am just desperate to get my uterus out and start getting better!

No matter how many times I called the gynaecologist I couldn’t even get an appointment to discuss a hysterectomy. So when I read on this site that a private consultation can help, I made an appointment at Nuffield hospital in Newcastle with Mr Kucukmetin. He told me at the first appointment he would do my surgery in the NHS. Within a month I had my first appointment at the NHS hospital, and at that appointment I was given a date for my surgery. So I will have a hysterectomy on 3 July. This is completion before I have even offered an appointment to discuss my MRI results with my original NHS gynaecologist.

I cannot recommend enough making a private appointment if you’re able to do so. I paid for 1 initial consultation, and 1 scan, everything after is on NHS so is free. I hope this can help someone, as the post I read helped me.

hi I had a very different experience after enquiring about a private consult, they said if I went ahead and did it it would adversely affect my waiting times for nhs surgery as I was already ‘in their system’ as an NHS referral for initial consultation, so effectively I would be going back to the start of the wait times again after the private consult,l unless I agreed to also pay privately for surgery, I kinda got the gist of it meaning I couldn’t ‘queue’ jump as such.

My purpose of heading into private consult was more to do with anxiety around the findings on my MRI scan done at a different nhs trust, they had then referred me straight out to the endo specialist with no follow up consultation to explain their findings. I’ve got my head around things now so just sticking with my original nhs referral route.

I guess every trust is different. And perhaps the difference is that I haven’t been on a waiting list for surgery because I’ve never yet been given an appointment to ask about it.
