Private consultation - what to expect

Hello lovelies...after having my first laparoscopy in august which came back negative which was done by a general gynae, I’ve just booked a private consultation with a local BSGE accredited consultant for next week. My DR is fully supportive and is writing a letter to him with my background and any scans etc. I’ve had issues for years and a family history of endo so am hoping for some answers...He does private and NHS appointments so I’m hoping afterwards he can refer me to his nhs list if he wants me to have any tests etc because I can’t afford to pay for anything more than a few consultations and won’t be able to pay for private treatment / scans etc. It’s a 30 minute appointment and want to make the most of it so was just looking for some advice please xx

🤞 for answers 🙂 and NHS list, they shouldn’t have any issue. Do you have photos from the lap to take?I just gave my notes/history to the consultant to read, he asked a few questions and said endo, he wasn’t BSGE, but knew what he was talking about. The only thing was he underestimated the severity 🙄😂 which I did understand why after everything I’ve read.

Thanks lovely 🤞🏼 The surgeon didn’t take any photos or anything during my lap annoyingly and my notes are very minimal 🙄 but my Dr said she was going to send across all my history and previous scans and stuff so I hope that will be ok x

Let us know how it goes, I’m sure it will be great though. I found it so worthwhile and don’t ever regret ever spending the money.

Hi! Sounds like you're on the right track after general gynae failed to find the issue.

From my experience (2 failed laps with general gynae and then diagnosis of endo and adenomyosis and effective surgeries with specialist) I'd say you're going to be in great hands. My first appointment with a specialist was thorough, kind and sympathetic. He asked me for my history and symptoms which we discussed at length, asked questions about duration of symptoms and any specifics. He performed a very gentle examination of my tummy and vaginal area and discussed his thoughts. He offered to add me to his NHS list but I think under the circumstances that's something you will need to discuss more thoroughly - possibility, waiting times, what to do if they can't etc. Good luck x

Hey, we spoke a while back! I hadn’t had my lap done by the time I saw a private specialist but I’d had ultrasounds etc, was waiting for a lap but had been told I was looking at around another 8 months after already waiting 4 months and was just being fobbed off all the time by nhs consultants saying I didn’t have Endo etc. I would say go in prepared with notes and questions. I wrote down all my symptoms and questions I had but to be honest I didn’t really need to push. He saw me listened to my symptoms done an internal examination (to be fair he said he couldn’t feel anything) but he said straight away you need a lap done. I was literally booked in not even 2 months after that appt for a private lap although it got cancelled because of covid!

What I would say though is I think they could probably help in getting you pushed up the list as I was then booked in for august through NHS but to be honest with covid around I was expecting to be waiting a lot longer! Not sure how much of an influence it does have but they may be able to get the ball rolling!

Have you had an mri or anything? They may be able to get you on an nhs list for that and could potentially get you further up a waiting list? I don’t know if they have any say in it but can only try! Good luck with your appointment 🤞🏻 Will be thinking of you x

Heya lovely I remember, how’re you doing since your lap have you spoken to the surgeon now? I’ve never had an MRI so don’t know whether that would make sense as the next step..defo going to write everything down so I don’t forget anything! X

I’m not sure if you’ve seen my recent post but I had lap done last Monday. Went okay but I still feel no different from before if that makes sense. Feel ok in terms of surgery recovery but just still feeling all my usual pain, follow up in 3 months so just have to hope that things will get better within that time!

I never ended up having the mri but I’ve heard that it can pick up Endo in some cases. The other thing I thought when they originally suggested I have one is that it could potentially rule other things out, that way I always feel like you’re a bit more armed when dealing with gps etc when they are trying to fob you off saying well it could be this it could be that etc.

Either way I think it can’t be a bad thing to have a private specialist on board with you! X

Ah I havnt, I’m glad you’ve finally managed to have your lap, and hopefully after a few months you will see some relief. I’ve read that it can take a little while to settle so I do hope you feel better in the next few months lovely. Will let you know how it goes! X
