Scans are not 100% reliable even when reviewed by radiographers specialising in endo

Just a reminder to everyone that scans are not 100% reliable when analysed by radiographers highly skilled in pinpointing endo via scans. I had a lap a couple of months ago and was found to have stage 4 endo with my uterus fused to ovary and to my bowels. The bowels were so bad that my gyno surgeon didn't touch them and referred me for another MRI to see if they could get a better idea as to how deep the endo was before referring me to a bowel surgeon.

As I suspected, the MRI showed nothing just like the ones I had had before the lap. The results were reviewed by radiographers skilled in endometriosis diagnosis. Even my original surgeon believed it would show up this time but alas! Just a reminder that sometimes it doesn't show up, no matter who is analysing the scans.

Laparoscopy is THE GOLD STANDARD! Xx

hun I 100 percent totally agree on this. I had major surgery three hours nearly three weeks ago to excise and unfreeze my organs that had stuck together with fibrous scar tissue. All my scans showed nothing even though I had severe endo and kissing ovaries the only scanned that did ever show anything was an mri as they needed like you to know how far it was around my bowels. Thankfully it was only superficial so I didn’t end up needing a bowel resection. Even though they have freed up organs at first I was ok I felt some kind of relief I could use my bladder and bowels better . No my bowels are back to they were before surgery . So even though have had laxido to get the bowels working that has very little effect. Xx

very true!

My scans never show anywhere near the full extent of severe disease that is found during each surgery.

I feel scans are relied on too heavily and only laparoscopy should be used to diagnose and accurately stage disease.

Best wishes to you ❤️
