What contraception with endo

Hello,

A couple of years ago I had a laparoscopy which confirmed my endometriosis diagnosis. At the time I’d had my mirena coil for about 3 years.

The coil has worked wonders in reducing some of the symptoms from my endo and the surgeon told me that they’d recommend me keeping the coil in order to stop/slow down the endometriosis growth.

The whole time I have had my coil I suffered with chronic thrush and no matter what I did it would always come back. I have looked into it and some research did find that the coil acts as a nest for all the bacteria which can increase the chances of getting thrush.

I have had a new coil put in January and I have now found out that I have a “high level of thrush” again…

I have tried the combined pill when I was 16 which made me completely depressed and then got my first coil at the age of 17.

I am about to turn 25 next month and I’m no where near ready for children but I would love to not be on any contraception so I could give my body a break from all the hormones but I am terrified as to what this would mean for my endometriosis? Has anyone here found that have been able to just track their cycle and keep an eye on their endo symptoms?

I have tried discussing it with multiple GPs, nurses, doctors and gynos but everytime they have said that it just simply wasn’t an option.

Some nurses have also said that they were surprised I was advised the mirena coil to help with my endo as it would not stop ovulation, so I am a bit confused. They did advise me to look into the patch, the ring, the implant and the injection but none of the side effects seem worth it in comparaison to the mirena coil.

I feel like no professional have been listening to what I actually wanted and ever since my laparoscopy I have just been left to my own devices and now I’m just not even sure if it’s worth trying to see a specialist or not….

Any advise would be highly appreciated, Thank you.

hey

I have recently been told I have suspected endo but I haven’t had it confirmed. I have had it since around 13/14 years old. I’ve been on a few contraception’s.

The pill. The depo injection and neither of them seem to help my endo.

I got pregnant after 5 years of trying in 2020 and after my son I went back on the depo. Now it was okay I still got mild pains every now and then but then I forgot my shot. I fell pregnant very quickly with my daughter and since having her 7 months ago I’ve been bleeding ever since. I went on the depo 3 days after she was born and I found out that it just hadn’t been effective. My body needed a break from contraception and from pregnancy. Since I’ve not been on anything for the past 3 and a bit months my pain is quite severe but everyone’s pain tolerance is different. I would highly recommend you try not being on anything for a few months and download the app FLO. It’s a period tracker and you can log how heavy, spotting, clots, your moods, exercise etc. it’s very good and it’s good at predicting when your period is due. I recommend this app so so much x

with contraceptives it can really be a bit trial and error. Just because one combined pill messed with your mental health doesn’t mean a different brand would. I’m on desogestral but I tried a different mini pill and that didn’t suit me. I’ve also tried not taking anything but ovulation week was making me Ill so I had to go back on the pill. I’ve been on desogestral for 5 months. Had light periods until this month where I’ve gone 48 day cycle and now I’m bleeding through ever2 hours 🤦‍♀️ See how next month is but I might be changing again! Only thing I haven’t tried is coil.
