Contraception to reduce endo

What contraception would you advise to reduce the chance of endo growing back? I can’t have oestrogen as my mum had breast cancer. I’m very susceptible to hormones and find they have my mood quite a lot. Don’t want to go on hormones again but have been told it’s the only way to reduce the chances of it coming back 😢

It is about stopping periods so the mirena coil might be best as most of the progestin is released into the womb lining rather than the circulation so systemic symptoms should be reduced. Some love it, some don't - hopefully others might share their experiences.

Hi, I am in the same situation. I had a lap 3 weeks ago for removal of endo , they inserted the mirena coil but I had to get it removed after 2 weeks it was dreadful. So painful and my moods were horrific. I also struggle with progesterone so I am not sure what to do. I have an appointment with the nurse on Wednesday to discuss which contraception/hormones would be best. I will let you know what she advises :)

I had the Mirena coil. Had no problems and completely changed my life in terms of periods and endo - for the better.

I had no periods for 5 years on the coil and I then had it removed to try and concieve and fell pregnant the first month.

I used to react extremely badly to the pill so the thought of hormones troubled me but I have had no problems at all.

The first few weeks I did have cramping which went after taking paracetamol. I had a second one inserted after a lap too and didn't get the cramping again.

Hello, I am on the Depot Provera 3 monthly jab and it has reduced my period pain and migraines substantially. I get awful side effects from hormonal medication but this one hasn't been too bad. It increased my appetite and I did put on a bit of weight and spotted for months but that was about it. Considering how bad I am on other the other hormonal medication, this wasn't too bad at all. Best of luck Jo xx
