Good Afternoon, I just wanted to ask if anyone else who has been on Dienogest or is on Dienogest has had bleeding in between their menstrual cycles as well? I know it’s in the patient information leaflet but I was slightly startled when I saw significant bleeding yesterday that was accompanied by agonising pain in my pelvic area. I took some painkillers and they didn’t help with the pain at all and I lost hours of sleep to the pain. I assumed that there would be light bleeding between the cycles but the bleeding was significant and occurred for the whole day. Has anyone else had such bleeding or should I speak to my gp about it?
Side effects?: Good Afternoon, I just... - Endometriosis UK
Side effects?
Hi If that is the mini pill i had bleeding the entire 11 weeks i tried it apart from 1 week off. Sending you a big hug it's awful isn't it.
Thanks love ❤️ I’ve been on it for a month and I’ve been bleeding consistently for the past three days, it’s seriously stressing me out because it hasn’t helped with the pain either. I see my consultant again next month, he said that if this doesn’t work then he’ll put me on the Zoladex injection.
I have heard taking two a day helps with bleeding, but my gp would not authorize it. But I'm now on prostrap injections and they have been just marvelous. And your most welcome, i hope you get some relief soon x
Getting through to my gp is an absolute nightmare and the last time I had an issue with the Medroxyprogesterone, they turned around and told me to get in contact with the gynaecologist which was no help for me. I only have to take them for another month, I got another month’s supply yesterday and then I see my consultant anyways so I’ll explain it all to him then. He did say that it was hit or miss and the Medroxyprogesterone was unfortunately a massive miss since I ended up bleeding for a whole month to the point I ended up in A&E from the pain and anguish and was then declared anaemic, so now I’m on iron tablets too. It’s so frustrating how much we have to go through with endometriosis, yet it’s still such a misunderstood and under researched topic considering how common it is. I’m a pharmacy technician and so many colleagues don’t even know what it is, it’s shocking. I’m so glad that the Prostap is working for you! It’s nice knowing that there are certain treatments that do work. I think he was hesitant putting me on the injections due to my age but my mum had severe endometriosis herself so I know I’ve inherited it from her she has been at ease since her hysterectomy.
Hi i agree as i was told to go to family planning or give the tablets six months 😒, i was also told at one of my injections by the nurse, that had told her colleague, to tell me to give it six months, that this medication can make the bleeding worse. So why put someone who's bleeding for three weeks at a time, and severely anemic on a medication that makes bleeding worse! When i saw someone at gynecology he was brilliant, the other three before that not so good, that he would have left me on my previous medication that was working. But said i can have prostrap for as long as i like. I'm glad your mum is doing well though xx
It’s actually insane that they know the bleeding risks and yet they still decide to prescribe it! You’d think they’d use common sense and think that it’s a terrible idea to prescribe medications that can increase bleeding to someone who is bleeding for almost a whole month and is already anaemic. I’m really sorry that you had to go through different gynaecologists to finally find one who was understanding. My bleeding has stopped now, after a few days, but I think it’ll probably be best to go onto the Zoladex or Prostap since the Dienogest just makes me feel horrible. It says on the patient information leaflet that it’s not recommended for patients with breast cancer in their family too so I don’t feel comfortable taking them long-term since my grandma had breast cancer and now my first cousin is currently battling it, and they’re both from my dad’s side. I’ve already had breast cancer scares because I have fibroadenomas and my breast specialist wasn’t very sure about continuing them either.
Hi i agree i wasn't impressed when she told me this. I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin and Grandma, it must be just horrendous for your family at the moment. Getting cancer is a big fear of mine. My daughter had a cancer scare last year she found a breast lump, got thoroughly checked out, it turned out to be a cyst which was cured with antibiotics. In 2022 they did several biopsies on my cervix and uterus and the wait for the results is awful. Sending big hugs to you and your family x
Hi my GP took me off these after 4 weeks they made me so ill mentally and physically . He also said these tablets rarely get prescribed because of how bad the side effects are . I also bled for 16 days during this 4 weeks I was on them . Took a week to get out of my system then started to feel more myself again. Speak to GP about your side effects and ask fir something different . Hope this helps x
Thanks love, I felt like I was going crazy honestly. I’ve felt awful on them, as someone who struggles with depression as well, I’ve had severe lows and moments of absolute worthlessness while I’ve been on them. I’ve been bleeding for five days now, doesn’t seem like it’ll stop anytime soon and my periods are due this coming week…I did think it was odd too, the gynaecologist assumed I knew what Dienogest is because I’m a pharmacy technician but not once have I dispensed it for someone at work, now that you say it has severe side effects, I know why I hadn’t heard of it until I was put on it myself. I see him next month so I’ll just have to be asked to be switched to the Prostap or Zoladex which were the other options. I’ve seen really positive comments on them so I’ll take the shot. Anything to reduce the pain and bleeding. It’s affecting my quality of life atm.
Yes thats exactly how I felt like my mind was going mad I started feeling conscious about myself and just didn't feel like me anymore and there was headaches, migraines, nausea, dry mouth and throat, loss of sex drive , dizziness, not sleeping this was everyday it was awful soon as I mentioned all this to my doc he wasn't happy at all and said stop them straight away . I dont see my gynaecologist for another 2 months yet. If you feeling this way please speak to your doc there is other options you can try until you see your gynaecologist xx
Thank you so much, that makes me feel better because I’ve not heard of many being on them. I have the same symptoms too, I’ve had severe migraines that my migraine medications are failing to treat too and I’ve been bleeding for a week, also bringing out clots while being in intense pain. I took a mefenamic acid at work and even that didn’t help, I feel like I’m at a complete loss…
I have been bleeding for 17 days after Cerazette. So I stopped taking pills and start taking Tranexamic acid to stop bleeding.
Prostap injections was brilliant to stop pain and bleeding, though have some side effects 💛
Unfortunately everything has some degree of side effects I’m willing to switch to the Prostap if it’ll lessen the side effects from the ones I’m experiencing on the Dienogest atm. I’ve been bleeding for seven days now, I’m so fed up of it. I bled for a whole month on the Medroxyprogesterone so I’m worried about a month of bleeding on these too. Thank you so much for your opinion, that puts me at ease ❤️
I have been on Prostap for 3 months (monthly injections) without HRT. Instruction said inject it in the first days of your period.
My periods stopped and returned only 2 months after . Just keep an eye on your depression level 😪💛
Thank you so much, so have you had a hysterectomy? My mum did too but they just put her on HRT because they said she’s too young. Depression is something that I keep an eye on since I suffer from clinical depression as well and Dienogest has made me feel a lot worse mentally.
