endo & bursitis

hi has anyone been diagnosed with bursitis in the hips/pelvis as a result of their endometriosis? If so what were the treatment options?

I’ve had a hysterectomy, salpingoopherectomy, bowel shave and pelvic clearance in January ‘24 and my surgery is healing well but the pain in my specifically left hip area is still terrible. It gets worse as the day goes on and by night time I’m struggling to walk and absolutely exhausted by it. I never had this pain until just before my diagnosis of stage 4 endo and adeno in Nov ‘22 so I always assumed it was related and would get better after my surgery. Sadly this has not been the case. I’m so upset as people ask ‘oh are you all better now?’ Or I feel like they expect me to be and all I want to say is ‘yes I’m great thanks!’ When in reality I’m not.

Any thoughts welcome and appreciated.

I would really recommend a good pelvic floor physio who has some experience with endo patients.

I had terrible bursitis in my left hip for years. I have ankylosing spondylitis and always assumed it was caused by that so kept moaning to my rheumatology team about it until eventually the rheumy referred me to physio. I don't know if it's the same everywhere but we had to pretend I'd only been suffering for 6 weeks instead of the 5+ years it really was. The physio gave me 2 exercises to do which cleared it up. They were laying on my right side and raising my left leg with a resistance band around my legs just above the knee and a bridge which I progressed from normal bridge to arms crossed over chest bridge to arms crossed over chest and right leg raised. 15 reps of each, every day and eventually down to 3 times a week. The physio said I could self refer to them anytime (in mid Essex health) not sure if it's the same everywhere though!

Hi, this is exactly me! 💯 mirror image and like you post surgery this is now my biggest issue causing daily discomfort. Have you had any joy at all with treatment options?

I am sorry you are suffering still after all you have been through.

Sending you my love. C

It’s so frustrating isn’t it? I’m sorry you’re in the same situation. How long has it been since your surgery and suffering with the hip?

Is it just in your hip? Or do you have other pain? Mine sometimes spreads over the pelvis to the other side but not very often and that could be related to recovery still.

I haven’t had any treatment for it yet. Still doing my post op physio but they are sending me for an xray today but unsure whether it’s going to show anything. Dreading being in another turmoil of getting a diagnosis.

Hi! I'm sorry you have still been having problems with your hip after surgery and hope it is getting less painful. I had hip pain before my endometriosis surgery 10 months ago and have since been diagnosed with bursitis by MRI. I wondered if you had made any progress, particularly with the physiotherapy.

I’m still waiting to be seen by physiotherapy so no progress as yet I fact it’s worse than it was 🤦‍♀️

Have you any success to report with treatment etc?

Hi! Thank you for getting back to me. I'm very sorry to hear that it's got worse. I'm also waiting for physiotherapy. No formal treatment yet, I take paracetamol very occasionally and tried amitriptyline which lessened the pain but not enough to sit down. I have also had some success with herbal remedies for pain relief making it easier to stand up and move around with less pain in the hip. What has worked best so far is turmeric, tart cherry capsules, devil's claw, using a dehumidifier and thick cushioned trainers (I may also have arthritis and am not sure which is working for what condition).

I hope you get your physiotherapy soon. I'll report back if mine is successful, or if I find another remedy.

All the best x
