Sorry to hear you've been feeling so awful since the depo shot. It was a few years ago, but I felt very similar when I had my first and only injection. I was nearly 35 and it was around Oct 2020. We'd come out of the first lockdown (in Wales) so could go to face-to-face appointments. It was before I was diagnosed with endometriosis, but suspected I might have it. I'd got on well with the patch, but wanted to try different contraception to see if it helped terrible period pains.
Depo helped me with that as I didn't bleed for 3 months, but mentally I felt horrendous. I was quite happy and calm in the months before I got it, but a few days in, I felt depressed, sad and like crying all the time. I don't remember chest pains and shortness of breath, but I do remember feeling absolutely suicidal out of nowhere. Like you, I had brain fog, lost sex drive and felt like I'd lost my mind. I've no idea how I worked through those 3 months.
Obviously, it's different for everybody, but as soon as I got to the last week of the 3 months, a cloud lifted and I felt like myself again. I was so happy - all the side effects disappeared. I had heavy bleeding afterwards, but no way was I tempted to get another shot. I couldn't put myself through the mental torture.
I hope things get better for you as it starts to wear off and that you've got plenty of support around you. Make sure you speak to your GP or the health professional who gave you the shot. Take care of yourself lovely.
Hi! I had a similar experience to you! I had my first injection a few months ago after switching from the mini pill to the depo and omg my body felt like it was hit by a bus! I had severe back and chest pains and my mood was awful!! As i was nearing my second dose of the injection I could tell my first dose was running out and I was bleeding so heavily and my pain was excruciating! I refused a second dose and was put back onto the mini pill i was on before and on currently. My GP though was very judgmental about the fact I did not try it out of another few months but I refused to go through that again. I am being treated for potential endometriosis on my bladder and bowels so I have decided to go back onto the mini pill I was on before as it was a bit more easier on my body than the depo injection was as I go through more appoinements and potentials surgeries for my diagnosis.
I hope you find a suitable contraception/treatment for yourself and look after yourself x
