does your period ever wait for you?

Fully prepared to be the only one as I haven’t ever heard anyone else say this, but does anyone’s period ever “wait” for them?

I haven’t been woken up with period pain in years. Today, I woke up normal time, felt ok, then half an hour later the extreme pain and blood came. No blood on underwear or anything, it waited until I went to the toilet to start.

I’ve taken lots of time off work/other activities for 2/3/4 day period pain and other endo related non-period pain, but for years I haven’t had my period come on when I’m doing something or have the first day (that’s when I have my extreme pain) affect work. I’m not working today but was yesterday - I was supposed to start my (fairly regular) period yesterday but it came today, when I’m off work and only have casual evening plans. This happens all the time.

I have no idea if anyone else experiences this or if I’m the only one? It seems quite weird to me. I’ve only experienced it in the past few years, maybe after getting back to life after covid. On the one hand it’s good because I don’t tend to miss anything important for the extreme pain, on the other hand when I do miss things for other pain, it’s normally a lot less extreme and I worry about people believing me. It doesn’t help that although endo was heavily indicated on MRI I’m still waiting for specialist appointment and possibly laparoscopy so I don’t even have an official diagnosis.

I’m just adding that I know this sounds quite lucky, but I do still have to miss work and events for other pain, just not the really bad first day pain. In actuality, with multiple things including (suspected) endo, mental health and development conditions, I’m missing out on my much needed day to decompress and rest.

Hey there.

I wonder if it is related to stress levels? Perhaps when you are off work or have less plans you are more relaxed and your body recognises this? Just a thought. X

Thanks so much for your reply, honestly this is the only explanation I can think of! Slightly annoying as sometimes I’d like to have a relaxed day off but oh well! X

I get this with travel. I'm paranoid about flooding when j travel but it's as if my body knows and always waits until I get there or get home. Our bodies know us x

I’ve never heard of this happening with someone else so thanks so so much for your reply, it’s nice to know other people relate! Our bodies must just be able to tell! X

yes!!!! Nice to see someone has the same experience as me! I find them ‘polite’ - they wait until you pee. I put it down to relaxation as you have to relax bladder muscles to pee. Maybe.

I actually made the mistake of going to th expo 3 MINUTES before a colposcopy and I started. Fun stuff. I should have known and have waited. But yep - I absolutely get the e same thing. It’s weirdly reassuring seeing someone else who has it.

Thanks so much for replying, after seeing what you and others have said I’m convinced that it’s due to the body being more relaxed! I know what you mean about it being reassuring that someone else has it - I’ve honestly never seen it be mentioned before so I just had to see if anyone else could relate!! X

I still don’t expect it to happen so I always think lucky me I have another day with no period and then I go to the toilet and it’s just never mind…! X
