Adeno diagnosis...I think? Should I still have a lap???

Hi! If anyone has any experience of this or advice I'm all ears.....Following ultrasounds for pelvic pain that showed i had a bulky womb, small fibroids, plus a polyp at the top of my cervix, I had an MRI done.

Just spoke to my gp who said MRI noted 'thickening of the junctional zone up to 11mm, with cystic changes, suggesting but not diagnosing adenomyosis.' classing it as 'borderline'.

I think I read somewhere that a12mm thickened junctional zone is a definite adeno diagnosis.

Is this as close to a 'yes you have adeno' as I will get??? it's super challenging to deal with the pain and its impact on my (thankfully supportive) relationship, so I just want some answers.

The MRI confirmed the size and location of fibroids (3.8cm anterior subserosal fibroid & some small volume fibroid changes) and a 1.9cm paraovarian adnexal cyst.

No lesions or endometriomas showed on the scan.

I keep being told small cysts/fibroids shouldnt be painful but if there are a couple in the same area could it be?

The swelling is on the posterior of my womb, which may account for feeling of pressure on my bladder? I have had pelvic pain and painful sex for decades that has never been explained (I'm 50 and very perimenopausal!).

Anyhow I'm on the wait list for a lap and mirena (I can't face getting a coil fitted before then - rather wait till having a general anaesthetic!)

So my question is:

Should I still get the lap done? (My feeling is yes, but I don't want any unnecessary surgery).

Even without any evidence of endo on the MRI, if its there could they still find it by doing a laparoscopy?

Thankyou ❤️

There is a much less harsh treatment for adenomysiosis and fibroids called UAE Uterine Atery Embolation I think. It's a much less serious operation than a hysterectomy. I don't know aout it but maybe look it up and ask your doctor. Good Luck xxx.
