Endometrioma pain

hi, looking for some advice - during IVF my doctor discovered an Endometrioma, it’s less than 2cm in size but since starting treatment it’s become more and more painful. (Size has remained the same after 3 rounds)

It’s such an intense stabbing pain - is it normal for such a small cyst to cause such pain? Has anyone experienced similar?

Consultant says as it’s small I shouldn’t remove it, but worrying as I’m not sure why it’s become so so painful. X

Hi. It’s quite common that if yiu have an endometrioma yiu will also have endometriosis somewhere else in the pelvis which might be the cause of your fertility issues. Other than ultrasound have they done any other tests. .? I’m not sure about the treatment your having and it’s effects, but I had a 4 cm one and I had awful pain. Stabbing, ripping, pain going toilet and hip pain. My lap showed stage 4 endo although nothing else other than the cyst showed on ultrasound. Maybe push for an mri as if there is more disease it might need addressing for your IVF to be successful. All the best

Thank you starry, I was diagnosed with stage 4 Endo via laparoscopy however have never really suffered with bad pain. It seems I got the Endometrioma later in life but since starting ivf it’s been causing me more and more pain 😞 I think maybe i need to have an mri to see if it’s progressed at all and if they advise excision. Thanks for your reply xx

I had a 5 cm cyst while doing ivf , had it removed along with endo unfortunately for me has made no difference to my pain levels , I had to have a bowel resection on my last surgery and also have ademymosis ( sorry spelt that wrong )

It gave me big anxiety being there while doing ivf as it was growing I’m size slowly .

I did do ivf with the cyst and managed to get some embryos banked , then had the surgery after a few ivf goes .

Have you had any previously surgery?

Can you get them to do a mri too request that , make sure it’s done by a specialist I’m endo though as general gynaecologist are shocking to say the least .

Hope you get some answers and good luck with your treatment.

Hi Jade, thanks so much. Sorry you’re suffering too. I have had a laparoscopy (just diagnostic, no excision) so I know I have stage 4 endo. The Endometrioma was only picked up more recently and is less then 2cm, I’ve never really suffered with pain but I’ve noticed I’m getting more intense pain more regularly now 😞

I have some embryos frozen luckily, but just worried about why this pain is getting worse. Maybe mri is the right route to go. It’s so stressful all of this ☹️ good luck with your treatment too xxx
