Endometrioma on ovary painful is this normal?

I have a small Endometrioma on my right ovary the last couple of days I have been in constant pain on and off, if I’m sitting I can’t get comfortable, I’m taking paracetamol and ibuprofen regularly. I have checked and I’m currently ovulating (would the Endometrioma cause this to be more painful than normal) but this has been happening for 3 days now. I’m due a diagnostic laparoscopy on the 11th January and this is due to be removed, has anyone also had one removed? What’s the recovery like? If I have an Endometrioma will endometriosis be found also? Sorry for so many questions I can’t stop worrying or searching on Dr Google and making myself worry more. I had an endometrioma in my ovaries and found it to be painful mostly during period and ovulation or pretty much constantly!! If u have an endometrioma then that is an indication u have stage 3+ endo .... it just depends really. My recovery was good after surgery - took about 2wks to feel normal and 4wks to get totally back to usual.

Thank you for replying, how did they remove your Endometrioma? Can you have an Endometrioma without endometriosis or not? Sorry for more questions xx

I had excision surgery in March -my endo is severe. I think it’s unlikely to have an endometrioma with no endo BUT I may be wrong

I suppose I will find out soon, just sick of the pain in my ovary nothing seems to take the pain away at the moment. My Operation can’t come quick enough even though I’m so nervous about it. Thank you so much for replying x

If you would like to see how they remove it then search the procedure on you tube. There are some good clips to watch. I watched them so I knew what they were going to do. The consultant told me to watch YouTube when I asked about the procedure. I had already watched them by then.

Hello. I’ve had a few endometriomas in the past, some grew very large (and were excruciating) but would get also get pain when quite small.... well, below 5cm in size anyway.

Endometriomas are usually not sole findings and it’s likely endometriosis will be found elsewhere as they often appear in the later stages of endo ... as in stage 3 or 4 (stage 4 is considered the most severe).

I am post hysterectomy but did have stage 4 myself.

On a positive note my pain would usually be relieved from having the endometrioma cysts removed... so hope that’s the same for you!

The only thing I would also say is ask your surgeon if they plan to drain the cysts and cut away the cyst walls entirely. I know if just drained there’s a higher chance of filling back up and returning. And if not already with a really good specialist, and stage 3/4 is diagnosed then you should ask to be referred to one pronto.

I found codeine and even tramadol are sometimes the only way to manage my pain ontop of the OTC drugs too.

Ps. It’s possible you’re having more pain if there is a follicle growing near the cyst.... or the cysts itself is growing! The follicles can grow upto a few cm in size before releasing an egg... so can imagine this could attribute to pain felt in and around the ovary and cyst that’s there.
